Releases SpeakOf – Venom [Strange Town Recordings] By Release Promo Posted on 9th May 2020 6 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin The latest release from Strange Town Recordings welcomes SpeakOf back to the label for a new single. The Canadian artist and False Face Music boss first appeared on the Montreal imprint in April of 2018. Produced alongside sometime studio partner Santini, 'Melodrama' was remixed by Navar and went on to be the label's best selling track of the year. Now returning in solo capacity, SpeakOf presents 'Venom' alongside remixes from Kymatik and Kamilo Sanclemente. Leading the release off are the enchanting vibes of the original version. Cosmic and musical in equal measure; it's crisp beats, buzzing framework and otherworldly arps converge for a near perfect slice of astral techno. What can't be overstated are it's impassioned moods, particularly during the main break, as clustered pianos and harmonic refrains converge for a surreal landscape. Both remixes do an excellent job at reinventing those themes in two entirely different contexts, beginning with Kymatik. Having appeared on the label under his real name of Torsten Fassbender earlier this year, the German artist now returns under his well known Kymatik alias. The tempo shifts down considerably here for a more spacious, delicate rendition. Those gorgeous themes get reprocessed into an evolving wall of melodic fuzz across the first act, before a more distinct motif carries into the main break, ultimately giving way for a more percussive, spaced out finale. Rounding out the release is progressive house savant Kamilo Sanclemente who makes his label debut. The Colombian artist remains at the forefront of the genre's movement here with a rhythmic yet spacey take that complements the previous versions wonderfully. Full, warm and undeniably cosmic; it’s perfectly sculpted beats, exotic percussion and rising atmospheres make for a mystical first act. Momentum grows in waves, making for moments of moments of impassioned energy, before a catchy arp pushes the narrative higher during the main break, onwards to a thrilling finale. An inspired interpretation once again from the Colombian artist, which caps off a welcome return to Strange Town Recordings for SpeakOf. Highly recommended.
