Releases SHFT – Memoir / Second Sight [Juicebox Music] By Release Promo Posted on 8th June 2018 0 second read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Juicebox Music returns this week with a highly anticipated EP from SHFT. Adopted four years ago, SHFT is an alter ego of Delhi-based DJ/Producer Vipul Angirish. Created with the intent of crafting a cleaner more borderless sound, this shift in focus has led to releases on Parquet, Steyoyoke and Traum. Vipul is no stranger to Juicebox having collaborated with label boss Praveen Achary in 2013 on the imprints inaugural release ‘Future Echoes’. Now making his return as SHFT, the Indian artist presents a brand new two track EP entitled ‘Memoir / Second Sight’. The release begins with the distinctly modern and highly emotive ‘Memoir’ which features two collaborators in Prabhir (piano) and Rushil (guitar) . It’s dark, crunchy design immediately creates a dramatic quality which commands your full attention. The percussive waves and chugging foundation come together for a groovy, yet minimalistic framework, that sits comfortably between progressive house and techno. A processed piano builds a compelling storyboard throughout the first act, free flowing in composition and esoteric in mood, it’s incredibly captivating and ultimately leads the piece into the main break. Here the narrative shifts once more with gorgeous guitar strums making for a trippy yet emotive centrepiece, eventually building to a magic moment. A brilliant track from SHFT and likely one of my all time favourites on Juicebox to date. The release concludes with the devilish and equally stunning ‘Second Sight’. Again the quality and uniqueness of design is very apparent throughout the piece with a wealth of haunting motifs coming together for a perilous sounding journey. For as dramatic as ‘Memoir’ is this definitely takes the anticipatory vibes a notch further with a growling cavernous groove, thunderous drums and a building, hypnotic narrative that provides a bevy of intense moments. I have to be honest, I’d not heard much of SHFT’s previous material but the depth of these tracks is quite remarkable and both are nicely dialled for a contemporary dance floor. They also shift the Juicebox Music ethos a touch as well as they certainly don’t fall into the conventional progressive house category. A stunning release for the label which continues to impress and surprise with each and every project. Highly Recommended.
