Sharam – Do Ya [Yoshitoshi]

When Deep Dish played Pacha Ibiza in 2018, it was one of the group’s biggest reunion shows to date celebrating the 20th anniversary of their first show at Pacha, Ibiza. DJing to thousands at the legendary white isle club, the duo played an expertly crafted mix of tried-and-true classics, cutting-edge records, and unreleased material from both members. One of those tracks has been the subject of much attention, until now only available in the recording of the set released by Dancing Astronaut a year ago. Comments requesting its ID have inundated the page for months, with various DJ’s inquiring about it. Well, the time is upon us to finally unveil the mystery: “Do Ya” by Sharam. Built around a swirling, arpeggiated synth that comes and goes in many forms throughout its arrangement, the track balances elements of melodic techno, progressive house, and even golden-era trance to create something truly timeless. It’s really one of Sharam’s finest works in recent memory.

We’ve paired the track with another one from the label boss that’s been bubbling in his sets for quite some time, “Isolate,” which leans much more towards dark, driving, and hypnotic techno. Sharam decided to tweak and finish the track as a result of the extended quarantine, and is his first isolation-inspired track (hence the name). Isolate’s syncopated stabs build and stack on each other in a multitude of layers, coalescing into a complex, distorted, and infectious groove. The track wouldn’t sound out of place on Sharam’s 2017 techno album Collecti.

As Sharam’s first solo effort of the new decade, it doesn’t start on much of a higher point. Both tracks on this split demonstrate the veteran’s ability to craft diverse and thought-provoking tracks that draw just enough on current trends to sound relevant but not enough to sound stagnant.
