Born in Uruguay but now based in Israel, Sebastian first appeared on the Russian imprint in June of this year with a contribution to the label’s ‘01’ collection. Having also recently released on the UK’s Stripped Recordings, Sebastian now returns to Ghost Digital for his first EP entitled ‘Nostalgia’. Although early into his career Sebastian has already found a place in the electronic underground with his melodic, progressive minded sound. The lead and also title track ‘Nostalgia’ fits that ethos perfectly and it’s aptly titled with it’s reflective, old school vibes. Anchored by a deep, chunky groove the piece moves through atmospheric waves and heartfelt chord changes. It’s incredibly poignant but a strong cadance and great percussion keep it firmly on the dance floor. The second selection ‘The Art Of Living’ was one of the standout pieces on the aforementioned ‘01’ collection and fits in beautifully here with it’s housier sensibility. The tempo comes down a touch while playful melodies and clattering percussion fill in the framework. It’s this heavy, groove oriently first act which perfectly sets up a cinematic break. Once again full of emotion, it’s glassy atmospheres lift you closer to heavens before a classy drop resets the narrative for a groovy finish. The release concludes with the quirky ‘Hear Me Coming’ which is the most inspired piece on the EP for me. Rhythmically it’s quite fresh and unconventional while a bubbly complement of melodies gives it a wonky almost spacey vibe which plays wonderfully over it’s breakbeat oriented foundation. It rounds out three diverse and equally satisfying tracks which makes for a great release from Ghost Digital Records. Highly Recommended.
