Sean & Dee – Metaphysic [ICONYC]

John Johnson's ICONYC rounds out the month of March by welcoming Sean & Dee back to the label for a new single. Now over six years on from the duo's inception, Sean & Dee have been steadfast in their approach to progressive music, taking their club-friendly sound to Beatfreak, FSOE, Siona, UV and their own, recently launched Taboo imprint. ICONYC has also been a regular landing spot for the Italian duo, with two EPs, two singles and two remixes coming courtesy of the American imprint since their debut in 2019. Now, presenting just their second original production of the year, Sean & Dee return to ICONYC with a new single 'Metaphysic', alongside a remix from Some Of.

Beginning with the original mix you get a feel for just how strong the creative synergy is between these two talents is. Featuring a bright progressive minded narrative, the duo craft a foundation of warm pulsating beats, crunchy rhythms and striking chord stabs. Its robust low end is full of character and shape, positively charged and perfectly playing off the duo’s shape-shifting electronics, while flowing through nostalgic chord changes as deconstructed vocals steal the air at opportune moments. Coming to full fruition during the main break, a haze of metallic melodies and reflective pads unite for a rousing crescendo, perfectly setting up a finale of rippling grooves and driving percussion.

The release concludes with Some Of returning to the label for their first remix. The Russian duo follows the December release of 'Waiting' (written in conjunction with countryman Moon-Sun) with just their second career remix here. While maintaining the uplifting spirit of the original, the emerging duo crafts a sweeping sonic experience all their own, a peak-time journey into a musical wonderland, where flowing grooves and emotive phrasing surface from their uniquely crafted, club-friendly architecture, onwards to a goosebump worthy finale. It rounds out an excellent ICONYC return for Sean & Dee, an artist duo who continue to present their nostalgic progressive style to fine effect. Highly recommended.
