Salazar – Tabby [Onestar Records]

Onestar Records kicks off 2019 with a hugely anticipated EP from rising star Salazar. The Colombian artist debuted on the label in April of last year with the well received ‘Fobos’. Now following months of play from Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo, Salazar returns to Onestar with the much hyped ‘Tabby’.

Beginning with what has now become a staple in the sets of Nick Warren is the title and showcase piece ‘Tabby’. It’s a unique production in that it’s quite euphoric at moments but with dark undertones running through it. It makes for a dramatic yet highly joyous slice of pure progressive house, one which crowds have been eating up for the better part of six months. It’s full, rolling groove and cross cultural accents play off each beautifully as fiery effects and melodic fragments flow in an endless creative wave. Definitely one for the astute progressive music connoisseur.

The second selection ‘Statera’ continues the EP’s unique ethos with an eight minute storyboard of mystical sounds and electric grooves. It’s powerful drive is blanketed by phasing atmospheres and devilish harmonics for what results in sure fire peak time bomb. Building to a boil during the main break is a maze of stunning effects, eventually dissipating for a killer drop and massive finale. This one is massive!

The release concludes with the hugely energetic ‘Fracking’. Again coming in quite dramatic in tone, it’s a rippling low end which immediately grabs your attention before a trail of indistinct vocals adds an esoteric vibe during the break. Another well crafted production from Salazar which points to what an extraordinary place Colombia is becoming for progressive music, there is something special building there with a wealth of fresh talent pushing a sound which continues to flourish amongst some of the world’s biggest DJs. Onestar remains at the forefront of this movement with one of their all time best releases here. Highly recommended.
