Well known throughout the progressive music underground, Scottish artist Ross Geldart has compiled an impressive discography highlighted by releases on BC2, ICONYC Noir, INU Musika and Keep Thinking. Meanwhile, American producer Luke Segraeto has been a fresh name across 2020 with a string of self released productions before recent outings on Balkan United and Zephyr Music. Now pairing for their first ever collaborations the duo land on Deepwibe Underground with 'Symbiotic'. Drawing on smooth storyboarding and warm progressive concepts the EP begins with its title and showcase piece ‘Symbiotic’. On a backbone of buoyant beats comes rolling bass and lively percussion. Subtle yet emotive, an atmospheric glow encases the framework, as luminous cascades and effervescent phrasing converge in a perfect sonic marriage. The main break shifts further into heartfelt territory, as modulation rises across a bed of buzzing electronics, before a classy drop sets the course for a purring finale. The companion piece ‘Receiver’ continues the mellow, trance inducing vibes of its predecessor. From its robust, rolling groove comes haunting overlays and tightly wound arps. Choir-like vocals and placid atmospheres continue to elevate mood across the first act, perfectly segueing into a short but timely break. A stunning display of tonal creativities and gaseous effects highlight the centrepiece, providing moments of serenity, before a colourful final act seals it's brilliance. It rounds out not only a great EP from Ross Geldart & Luke Segreto, but an incredible year for Deepwibe Underground, a label who goes into 2021 with sizable momentum. Highly recommended.
