Roger Martinez – Work (The Reworks) [ICONYC]

The latest from John Johnson’s ICONYC finds the label presenting a massive remix pack for ‘Work’ by Roger Martinez. Originally released in June of 2016 it quickly became one of the label’s and also Roger’s most beloved productions. Now reborn for 2018 ICONYC invites Mononoid, Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic and Erich Von Kollar to re-interpret the track.

First up Mononoid make their much anticipated ICONYC debut which quickly follows a well received EP on Keller. Much loved for the their past releases on Lost & Found, microCastle and Traum the Dutch duo take ‘Work’ into dreamy, progressive minded territory with great results. On a backbone of driving beats and ethereal atmospheres comes warm synth swells and tribal infused drums. It’s peak time energy is undeniable and the pixie-like third act it going to be a delight for both old and new school fans of progressive house.

The second interpretation is provided by Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic who are fresh off their well received ‘Nostalgia’ single for ICONYC. The much loved trio have grown into one of the label’s core artists and continue to deliver their most essential work for the imprint with a stunning remix of ‘Work’. Opting for a dubbier, more rhythmic approach, Michael, Levan and Stiven keep the energy levels high with a rolling cadence and powerful percussive complement. The main break evolves into somewhat of a serene experience, with a glowing atmospheric resonance taking centre stage before melting down into a stripped back section of the groove which ultimately sets up a purring finale.

The third and final interpretation is provided by Erich Von Kollar who is also no stranger to ICONYC having remixed Fernando Olaya in October of 2016. The Hungarian artist and Stellar Fountain label boss closes the release out with a pure progressive interpretation that complements the previous two quite nicely. Backed by a fluid wall of key changing bass the track immediately has an emotive charm about. The main synth elements play nicely off the groove with a wave of firing percussion and dynamic clap just adding to it’s rhythmic bounce. The main break is particularly spacey, providing a perfect energy bridge back to the stripped, pulsating groove which sounds absolutely fabulous as the third act ensues. A lovely remix from Erich which caps off an A-plus remix edition of Roger Martinez’s ‘Work’. ICONYC is on a real roll at the moment and the remainder of 2018 looks even brighter for the US imprint.
