Ra (MX) – Stellar [Guateque Music]

Following on from a near two-year hiatus, Guateque Music returns with a new single from Ra (MX). Mexican producer and Guateque Music co-owner Raul Contreras aka Ra (MX) first came to our attention in 2014 with a release via Digital Structures. Noted for his attention to detail and groove aesthetics, the Mexico City resident would go on to record projects for ARKHAMRA, Undergroove Music and Brian Cid’s Endangered. Now, presenting his first release of 2022, Ra (MX) debuts on Guateque Music with ‘Stellar’, alongside remixes Darko Milosevic and Hot Tuneik.

Beginning with the original mix, Ra (MX) continues to lean in an astral direction. Whether it’s the hauntingly layered musical fragments or the sleek, meditative framework which houses his exotic percussive arrangements, there is a prophetic vibe to his work that you just can’t ignore. It’s this smooth storyboarding which leads to arpeggiated fragments, shapeshifting atmospheres and character rich effects, a sonic marriage which ultimately makes this such a profound dance floor experience.

Also making his label debut and providing the first remix is Montenegrin artist Darko Milosevic. Perhaps best known for his releases via Parquet and Steyoyoke, the Niksic resident lands on Guateque Music with a cosmic rework of ‘Stellar’. Taking inspiration from the original, Darko flexes his free-thinking muscles and crafts a version that lands firmly in melodic house and techno territory. Additional drive resonates from life-like pulses, smooth astral phrasing and deliberate percussive arrangements, while never letting go of its tranquil vibration and haunted musicality, which ultimately makes this interpretation a sensory delight.

The release concludes with Guateque Music co-owner Hot Tuneik returning to the label for the second and final remix of ‘Stellar’. A beloved DJ in his country’s nightlife, Diego Carreon Zuñiga aka Hot TuneiK has shared the stage with Guy J, Nick Warren, Henry Saiz, Joel Mull, Guy Mantzur, Anja Schneider, Sharam, D-Nox and Alex Niggemman. As a producer his groovy, organic sound has landed him releases on Balkan Connection, Clubsoncia Records, Or Two Strangers and Proton Music, while earning play and support from progressive music icon’s Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Always a creative remix, Hot now follows on from n EP for Zero Tolerance with a strong remix of 'Stellar'. Punchy, warm and undeniably organic; its chunky low end, sleek effects swing heavy rhythms work in perfect sonic unison, as those familiar astral themes dominate the narrative. An expansive centrepiece sits at the heart of the journey, highlighted by sensory saturating sonics and hazy harmonics, which perfectly set the stage for a transcendent finale.
