Releases Oliver Harper – Gilgamesh [Flow Vinyl] By Release Promo Posted on 8th September 2018 0 second read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Pena's Flow Vinyl welcomes Oliver Harper to the label with his two track ‘Gilgamesh’ EP. The UK artist and Perfecto Black A&R is also part of the Harper & Green duo and owns a tidy discography with releases on Baroque Records, Black Hole Recordings and Perfecto Black. Now making his much anticipated Flow Vinyl debut Harper presents his 'Gilgamesh' EP alongside remixes from Harper & Green and Joal. Beginning with the title and showcase piece 'Gilgamesh', Harper crafts a deep, progressive minded piece with lovely cross cultural motifs. It's spacious groove breathes wonderfully, sitting as the perfect foundation for an array of mystical themes and astral effects to work their magic. It's dance floor dynamics are perfect as well with a short break keeping the cadence locked before effortlessly shifting energy into a gorgeous finale. The companion piece 'Bisou' comes in a touch deeper and more techno inspired. A stripped, deliberate sound groove pushes forward with discernible momentum while waves of modulation tantalize the senses. A spoken word vocal theme highlights the piece, drawing your attention deeper into its meditative rhythms, perfectly setting up a groovy finale. The lone interpretation of 'Gilgamesh' finds Harper teaming up with sometime studio partner Green for more of a pure progressive rendition. A fuller groove adds energic pulses while percussive flurries and heady harmonics add waves of momentum. The ethereal take on the primary theme really shines, remarkably fluid it’s a free flowing melodic lovers dream and should suit a peak time dance floor quite nicely. The lone interpretation of ‘Bisou’ is provided by Joal who is returning to the label for his second appearance. The Portuguese artist made his Flow Vinyl debut in July of last year with a remix of ‘Night Crawlers’ by Astronivo. Also finding a home on Constant Circles, ICONYC and Selador, Joal now finds his way back to Flow with a stellar rendition of ‘Bisou’ to close out the release. The rhythmic core and vocal elements translate quite well in what is a warmer, fuller and more progressive minded interpretation. The production is pristine and the strength of its groove ultimately carries it across a captivating seven minute journey. My favourite version on the EP which rounds out the release on a high note. Flow Vinyl is back and there is much more to come. Highly recommended.
