Nopi – Travelling [Deepwibe Underground]

Deepwibe Underground opens the summer season by welcoming Nopi back to the label for a new EP. Ukrainian artist Nopi brings a surreal beauty to his innovative brand of electronic composition. His colourful synth leads, exotic percussive arrangements and smooth, dancefloor minded grooves have made for a sound that is all his own. Emerging in 2019, Nopi has enjoyed a three-year creative swell, earning the praise of electronic music tastemakers such as Behrouz, Guy J, Lee Burridge, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Sebastian Leger and more; while All Day I Dream, Do Not Sit, Replug and TRYBESof have served as landing spots for his transcendent sound. Having been a regular contributor to Deepwibe Underground since making his label debut in 2021, Nopi now returns to the label with a two track showcase entitled 'Travelling'.

Destined to be a highlight in Nopi’s discography, it is the otherworldly stylings of ‘Travelling’ which get the release underway. Smooth and organic from the outset, its rolling rhythmic structures, clattering percussive arrangements and character rich bass lines foreshadow what is a truly amazing journey. Hazy harmonics, pixie-like melodies and haunting atmospheres rise across the first act, carrying a colourful momentum into the main break. Delicate lines and ghostly vocal pads delight across the centrepiece, eventually peaking in symphonic fashion, as waves of percussion and rising sonics unite for a finale that is equal parts cosmic and emotive.

The companion piece ‘Gray Time’ begins on a deeper yet equally engaging monochrome, before collapsing waves of light reveal a gorgeous melodic storyboard. Nopi's uniqueness really shines here with rejuvenating melodies and hypnagogic arps descending over tight compact beats, perfectly carved bass lines and flashing percussive arrangements, ultimately resulting in a profound mood lifting experience to round out the release in fine style.
