Nightboy – Wrong [Soundteller Records]

Soundteller Records begins it’s 2018 journey by welcoming Nightboy to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Greece, Dionisis Marinos aka Nightboy was introduced to the electronic music world in September of last year. A contribution to Bullfinch’s ‘Autumn 2017’ compilation was quickly followed by releases on Hot Cue Music and DNA Records to close out the year. Now stepping up as 2018 begins Nightboy joins the Soundteller roster with his ‘Wrong’ EP.

Beginning with the title track ‘Wrong’ we get a lighthearted progressive composition with a strong harmonic narrative. It’s bubbly groove is filled with effervescent character while a complement of neatly produced percussion adds meditative drive. Delicate pianos are placed sparsely during the centrepiece as a gentle arp keeps the rhythmic flow, eventually dropping out for a warm, luminous transition into a gorgeous third act.

Rounding out the release is ‘Broken’ which slows the tempo down for a darker more brooding vibe. It’s rugged underbelly affords great character while delicate motifs provide a friendly balance. Out of the dark comes something quite hopeful though, with luminous pads gently descending as the main break takes shape. Quite reflective they initiate a heavenly storyboard before getting washed away into the bulbous groove and charged rhythms. Two stunning tracks from Nightboy and props to Soundteller for giving yet another new talent the proper platform to showcase their skills.
