Moonphazes, Luccas Deo, Fernandez – Raag [Astral Records]

Astral Records rounds out a successful year by welcoming Moonphazes, Luccas Deo and Fernandez to the label for their debut EP. Hailing from Brazil, this trio of the talented artists has enjoyed measurable success across their respective solo careers. With a fresh approach to melodic house and techno, Moonphazes, Luccas and Fernandez have compiled an impressive discography in recent years. Projects via ERROR, Panda Lab, Purified and more have yielded support from Agents Of Time, Fideles, Kevin de Vries, Korolova, Miss Monique, Nora En Pure and Vintage Culture, amongst others. With Moonphazes and Luccas being occasional studio partners in the past, the duo now combines their extensive forces with Fernandez, making their Astral Records debut with ‘Raag’.

Selection one ‘Vortex’ finds Moonphazes and Fernandez masterfully synthesizing their talents for a dancefloor journey that is both dynamic and club-effective. Equally at home above a festival skyline or sitting in the sweet spot of a primetime club set, the duo’s pyrotechnic synths and fragmented siren-like lead blanket a muscular low end that is charged with boundless energy. A trance-inspired break pushes the narrative forward with tension and emotion, before a colossal build reveals a twisted finale.

The release concludes with Moonphazes and Luccas collaborating on the EP’s title selection ‘Raag’. With past projects for Awen Records, ERRORR and Panda Lab, the duo’s creative synergy continues to grow on their Astral debut. Vocal hypnotism and charged synths dazzle throughout, while muscular grooves and robust rhythmic structures seal what is a peaktime masterpiece.
