Marc DePulse – Arp & Down [Inspired By Trees Records]

Inspired By Trees continues a strong summer season by welcoming Marc DePulse back to the label for his debut single entitled 'Arp & Down'. The German artist made his debut on the Swiss imprint in December of last year with a well received remix of Jay Phonic's 'Fighter'. 2019 has proved to be a fruitful year for the Leipzig resident, one which has been highlighted by releases on Beat Boutique, Einmusika and Parquet Recordings. Now landing back on Inspired By Trees, Marc presents his debut single for the label alongside remixes from Khainz, Dole & Kom and Baime.

Widely regarded for his pristine production prowess and attention to detail, Marc delivers one of his most intriguing pieces to date in 'Arp & Down'. Hugely compelling from the outset it's a cross pollinated affair that sits in the creative space between progressive house and techno. Aptly titled it's effervescent energy is fueled by a warped and ever evolving arp, elevating the narrative into astral territory, as smooth chord changes provide an emotional undercurrent. The second of two breaks finds the main motifs melting down to a sonic sizzle, building tension and drama before a classy drop ushers in a percussive finale.

Making his label debut and providing the first interpretation of 'Arp & Down' is Khainz. As one of Switzerland's most recognized electronic music artists, the Luzern resident has found a home on Heinz Music, Iboga Records and Sprout. Also a regular on the European festival circuit, Khainz remains one of his country's most sought after DJs, having played Boom Festival, Rainbow Serpent and others. Now fresh off the release of his third studio album 'Fingerprint' c/o YoshiToshi, Khainz makes his Inspired By Trees debut with a powerful rendition of 'Arp & Down'. Opting for a more techno inspired approach, the framework gets stripped down for a tough, percussive fuelled foundation. Menacing stabs and ominous sweeps further the first act storyboard, before the lead theme heightens mood during the break, perfectly shifting energy into a heady final act.

The second interpretation of 'Arp & Down' is provided by Dole & Kom who are making their second appearance on the label. The German duo first appeared on the Swiss imprint in May of this year with a remix of 'Diversity' by Inspired By Trees boss Paege. Now following summer releases for 3000 Grad Records and Bar 25 Music, Dole & Kom return to Inspired By Trees with a much anticipated rework of 'Arp & Down'. On a backbone of tough beats and fluid bass comes tranquil arps and percussive waves. Fluid yet buoyant, it's a creation that builds subtly through tasteful modulation and timely transitions. It's this sophisticated narrative that ultimately leads to an expansive interlude. Clocking in at over a minute in length, it's meditative quality brings a joyous, reflective mood before melting down into a pulsating finale.

The release concludes with Baime making their label debut and providing the third and final remix of 'Arp & Down'. Hailing from Denmark, Mikael Melander and Jens Christian Nørgaard make up the Baime production duo. The Copenhagen residents are fresh off a contribution to the Watergate Records 'Affairs 03' collection, while also laying claim to releases on Sincopat, Selador and their own Blindfold Recordings imprint. Now debuting on Inspired By Trees the duo bring their unique sonic aesthetic to 'Arp & Down'. Setting the piece in motion is a bed of tough beats and exotic drums. Sweeping atmospheres and astral motifs further elevate mood as percussive flurries and poignant tones flow through the framework. Reprocessed, the lead theme dominates a cavernous break, building anticipation before dropping out into a crunchy low end and hypnotic third act. A hugely creative remix from Baime, capping off what is a well rounded release for Inspired By Trees, one which marks a successful return and debut single for Marc DePulse.
