Mad Bear – Industria [Balkan Connection]

Mad Bear returns to Balkan Connection this week with a brand new EP entitled ‘Industria’. Having remixed Ri Za’s 'Name Not Important’ for the label in June, Mad Bear also owns a discography with releases on One Of A Kind and Symmetric Records. He now presents his first EP for Balkan Connection alongside remixes from Criss Source and Erdi Irmak.

The title track leads the release off and might be one of Mad Bear’s biggest creations to date. Full on crunchy progressive house with a wealth of cosmic effects and a subtle melodic edge. It is the less distinct musical narrative which really makes the track, not lost in a sea of sonic artefacts, the harmonics resonate with great strength, particularly during the break which is one of the journey's most memorable moments. The companion piece ‘Balkan Soul’ is a deeper more heady creation which complements the larger a-side nicely. The tempo shifts down while the groove opens up and waves of beautiful melody hover over the piece. The low end has some very nice movement in it and once again there’s a lovely harmonic storyboard. My favourite of the two.

The lone interpretation of ‘Industria’ is provided by Balkan Connection label artist Criss Source who returns for his fourth appearance. The German producer provides a perfectly crafted dance floor rendition of ‘Industria’. There are certainly a wealth of elements to use from the original and Criss has done a great job at staying true to the vibe while opening up the framework for a near perfect club construction. It’s thumping groove is undeniably powerful and a peak time dance floor certainly wouldn’t disagree. A massive remix from Criss.

The release concludes with Erdi Irmak returning to the label for his twelfth appearance. The Turkish artist has had his best year on record with stand out releases on Just Movement, Magician On Duty, Soundteller Records and Where The Heart Is. A deeper more soulful sound has been resonating from Erdi’s productions of late, making him an ideal choice to remix ‘Balkan Soul’. A sturdier more rhythmic framework brings it instantly closer to the dance floor and it’s smooth, flowy vibe is irresistible, but ultimately it’s Erdi’s cross-cultural motifs which really make the mix. Outstanding remix and my fave on the release. It caps off another well rounded offering from Balkan Connection who continue to have a great summer season.
