Kommodo – Alone On Earth [ICONYC]

John Johnson's ICONYC welcomes Kommodo to the label for his debut EP 'Alone On Earth'. Based in Brazil, Rivadavia Coura aka Kommodo has been a fixture of the melodic house and techno scene for just over five years. His pristine melodic sound has found a home on Somatic, Timeless Moment and Warung Recordings, while also finding favour with the genre's premiere tastemakers. Now making his much anticipated ICONYC debut, the Florianópolis resident presents a two track artist showcase.

Beginning with the title selection, Kommodo delivers one of his best productions to date. Led by a warm, rippling groove, it’s electric rhythms and astral sonics unite for an interstellar storyboard. Emotive chord changes and cosmic synth phrasing delight across the first act, as a clustered lead emerges through a maze of percussion and drums. Nostalgic and heartfelt across the main break, it’s grandiose nature proves impactful, rising with a tasteful restraint as the beats drop for a colourful finale.

The companion piece ‘When the Sun Goes Down’ finds Kommodo exploring a quirkier narrative while still keeping the emotive lean of the release intact. Female vocals play a primary role in the journey, drifting across a bed of warm bass swells and effervescent percussion, eventually melting down to a glowing break and arp driven finale. A powerful complement to 'Alone On Earth', it rounds out an excellent ICONYC debut for Kommodo, who continues to be one of Brazil's top melodic house and techno talents. Highly recommended.
