John Cosani – Magneto [Or Two Strangers]

John Cosani debuts on Antrim's Or Two Strangers imprint with a new three track artist showcase. Long regarded as one of Argentina’s finest progressive house producers, John has found a home on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Asymmetric Recordings, Beat Boutique and Movement Recordings. Now fresh off a remix of Paul Deep for Plaisirs Sonores Records, the Buenos Aires resident lands on Or Two Strangers with 'Magneto'.

John has already gained considerable recognition for his groovy, percussive sound and this sentiment will certainly grow with the lead piece ‘Magento’. Anchored by a punchy progressive groove, it’s rhythmic core rises quickly, with layers of finely tuned drums, subtle shades and vibrant tones filling in the framework. Fragmented melodies drift with dreamy abandon, before a timely top line, effervescent arp and compelling vocal sample resets the groove for a classy conclusion.

The EP’s midway point finds John exploring an astral narrative with ‘Spirit’. It’s wobbly groove is perfectly carved, characterized by rippling contours and rolling undulation. Smooth yet powerful, it provides the perfect foundation for quirky motifs and spastic effects to steal the air, setting up a powerful build and effervescent rush out of the main break, onwards to an exhilarating finale.

Rounding out the release are the deeper, hypnotic vibes of 'Led Van’. John's boundless creativity fuels this cross pollinated gem as punchy beats, dubby rhythms and frayed percussion unite for a rolling rhythmic core. Buzzing synths and ghostly vocals then advance the narrative, splitting moods between the surreal and thoughtful, before an acidic break provides just the right amount of tension to fuel a groovy third act. It rounds out an inspired collection of music from John, making for a brilliant debut on Antrim's Or Two Strangers that's not to be missed.
