Releases JFR – Kill Me Again [Secret Feelings] By Release Promo Posted on 7th August 2024 8 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Secret Feelings reaches the heart of the summer season with a new single from label boss JFR. Hailing from Argentina but currently calling Spain home, Juan Franco Rivero aka JFR has carved out a unique sonic identity in the world of progressive and organic house, resulting in a string of uniquely crafted records that present a resonant worldly sound. Enjoying a steady rise since emerging 2017, it was 2021 which proved to be a breakout year for JFR, as the Argentine continued his upward trajectory with a standout release for UK behemoth Anjunadeep; a project which would lead to offerings via Clubsonica and Musique de Lune across the next calendar year, and in turn garnering support from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Sebastian Leger. 2023 would also bring newfound success for JFR, launching his Secret Feelings imprint amidst much praise. With a healthy balance of progressive and organic house, coupled with a consistent release schedule, Secret Feelings now sits as one of the underground's best new labels. Now, following a contribution to All Day I Dream's popular 'Summer Sampler' series, JFR lands back on his Secret Feelings imprint with 'Kill Me Again', alongside remixes from DJ Ruby, Kebin Van Reeken and Briska. Clocking in at nearly nine minutes in length, JFR's original mix is the ultimate magic carpet ride into the progressive house cosmos. The Argentine's melody crafting ability is on full display here, with a bevy of cleverly coaxed riffs percolating atop driving beats and full fluid basslines, building appropriately into a well-timed break. The interlude proves to be dramatic, almost theatrical in way, with it's creamy cascading keys and percussive rides building tension towards a tasteful crescendo and seismic finale. Remix number one is provided by DJ Ruby who makes his label debut following a strong outing for Ruben Karapentyan's RKP imprint. Taking more of a traditional progressive house approach, the Maltese talent adds a beefier complement of percussion and lively rhythmic elements, both of which work well against the wistful themes of the original, while a well-crafted break keeps things on the right side of cool, eventually leading to a thunderous dubbed out drop that's sure to satisfy all the peak time progressive house lovers out there. Making his label debut with remix number two is Kebin Van Reeken who has been enjoying a prolific year with releases via Mango Alley, Sound Avenue and Univack. The Dutch born, Argentina based artist crafts a slow burning roller that's nicely suited for mid-set action or the morning hours perhaps. It's techno inspired framework comes complete with layered kick drums and feathered percussive arraignments to let those buoyant beats breathe and work their dancefloor magic, while a tasteful topline adds further depth, space and character along the way. The release concludes with Briska added additional depth and variety with a mix that splits genre's nicely. Known for his releases via Hexagonal, Mycelium and Sinner Music, the Colombian artist finds a nice balance of progressive house and melodic techno, with a classic proggy groove laying the foundation, while a complement of melodies and effects fall more in line with the latter. The main break is surely the highlight, as JFR's themes get a lovely metallic sheen eventually leading to a sharp, intense build and suitably large finale, one that rounds out the release on an edgy note.
