JEI BLVCK – Too Far Gone [JEI BLVCK]

The latest release from JEI BLVCK finds label boss JEI BLVCK returning for a new EP. Based in Miami, Florida, the American artist last appeared on her home imprint earlier this month with 'Eternity'. Written in collaboration with Tone of Arc and well known vocalist Kieran Fowkes, the trio captivated electronic music fans with an indie pop crossover creation that will surely stand the test of time. Now as the month of April winds to a close, JEI BLVCK returns to her comfortable home with a two track showcase entitled 'Too Far Gone'.

Diversifying her portfolio further with 'Waiting For You' it is JEI's masterstroke to collaborate and introduce the vocals of Shawni. As the first act gets underway, the American artist crafts a storyboard of punchy beats, striking electronics and fiery percussion. It’s this dramatic amalgamation which perfectly sets the stage for Shawni’s haunting vocals. Ghostly and emotive in equal measure, they descend over the pulsating framework, while sections of cosmic effects advance the narrative into the break. Shifting further into dramatic territory, the expansive centrepiece delivers just the right combination of sonic wizardry and astral aesthetics, building with a steady tension, before a flurry of astral synths provide an energy bridge into an epic finale.

The cosmic techno vibes of the title selection ‘Too Far Gone’ are perhaps an ideal complement to its predecessor. Electric and rolling, the undulating framework gets adorned with crunchy rhythms, percussive flurries and vibrant arps. It’s fluid nature quickly becomes enlightening, as timely transitions introduce poignant vocal phrases leading into the main break. Similar to 'Waiting For You', the break melts right down to a cavernous wasteland of buzzing electronics and ghostly vocals. It's surreal vibe is sensational, eliciting both dramatic and emotional moments, before an effervescent crest transfers energy into a devilish final act. It rounds out a superb return to her home label for JEI BLVCK, who continues to impress in the world of melodic house & techno. Highly recommended.
