Ilya Gerus – Taina [Stellar Fountain]

The latest from Stellar Fountain welcomes Ilya Gerus back to the label with a new EP alongside remixes from Dio S and Halaros. The Russian artist made his debut on the Hungarian imprint in June of last year with 'Cinematic' and also lays claim to three outings on label affiliate Astrowave. Now following an EP for OLD SQL Recordings to begin the year, Ilya returns to Stellar Fountain with 'Taina'.

Known for his playful melodic sound, ‘Taina’ comes in as one Ilya’s best to date. Bright, buoyant and full of great energy, it’s a nod to some of our timeless progressive house favourites over the years. Haunting phrases and metallic tones are a match made in harmonic heaven while the break offers an an inviting warmth that brings out all those nostalgic feels. The companion piece 'Taiga' follows a similar sonic ethos with more luminous motifs, clattering percussion and some nice warmth on the low end. Choir like pads elevate mood into hopeful or reflective levels across the heart of the track, before the second of two breaks offers a rhythmic shift, perfectly setting up a glowing finale.

First up on the remixes is Dio S who returns to the label for his sixth appearance. The Greek artist is known for this deeper sound which has recently found a home on Sound Avenue and Sol Selectas. Here he reshapes 'Taina' into a groovier more dance floor oriented affair. The low end carries lovely character while the main theme gets broken up into chord stabs for what amounts to a less grandiose, more rhythmic take on the track.

Rounding out the release is Halaros who makes his label debut here. The Greek artist complements the previous versions nicely and provides a current progressive take on the track. While the main theme does get utilized during the break the focus remains on rhythm and groove, making it great for a dance floor. It's gotten a great response from DJs pre-release and certainly wouldn't sound of place in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo. A lovely interpretation from Halaros which rounds out a dreamy release from Stellar Fountain. Don't miss it.
