Luum Records opens the spring season by welcoming Floresta to the label for their debut single. Emi Tazz, Mariano Domínguez and Sonia Veragua make up the Floresta production team, and through combining their creative forces the trio has created a sound all their own. A unique amalgamation of ancestral motifs with contemporary rhythms takes listeners on an explorative journey, one which proves to be both transcendent and memorable. Noted for their borderless approach to productions and live performances, Floresta continues to emerge as 2025 unfolds, making their Luum Records debut with 'Mayan Spirit', alongside a remix from Kris Dur.
Full of detail and idiosyncrasies, 'Mayan Spirit' is a dimly lit voyage where the group explores a storyboard of lazy mid-tempo grooves, wispy atmospheric swells and meandering vocal coactions, which add a unique soul and emotion to the journey. It's rippling framework while powerful, presents a smooth, cruising vibe across the first act, evoking emotion through slow burn repetition, while dodging expectations and emphasizing conceptual charm, painting idyllic scenes of solitude, as further vocal manipulation and ritualistic motifs unveil a semi-conscious dreamland, perfect for a late night headphone listening session.
Rounding out the release with the lone interpretation of 'Mayan Spirit' is one of the Luum label bosses Kris Dur. As a DJ first, Kris honed his programming skills at some of Mexico's trendiest venues, oftentimes blurring the lines between progressive, organic and melodic house. Emerging as a producer in 2022, the Mexico City resident quickly notched well-received projects for Freegrant Music and The Soundgarden, in turn earning support from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Nicolas Rada and Marcelo Vasami. Now, fresh off an appearance on Mango Alley's 'Augmented 016' collection to begin the year, Kris returns to his primary home in Luum with a gorgeous rendition of 'Mayan Spirit'. Taking a deep yet more direct dancefloor approach, while maintaining the elusive spirit of the original, the Mexico native constructs a chunky rhythmic core, complemented with exotic percussive arrangements, panoramic motifs and timely use of the vocal elements. It’s this amalgamation of sound which ultimately makes for a versatile and club-effective version; a brilliant re-imagination that’s likely to find favor with a broad range of DJs across the coming months. it rounds out a superb third offering from Luum Records, a label which continues to impress as they embark on their fourth release.
