Federico Monachesi & Nicolas Viana – Elevation [Or Two Strangers]

Antrim’s Or Two Strangers opens the fall season with a new collaborative project from Federico Monachesi and Nicolas Viana. With a career that spans the better part of two decades, Argentinaean artist Federico Monachesi has firmly etched his place within his country's progressive house history. The Tucuman resident lays claim to an impressive resume, highlighted by releases via Balkan Connection, Movement Recordings and Sendas, in turn earning him the support of Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Eelke Kleijn and Nick Muir. Meanwhile, Nicolas Viana first emerged three years ago and has enjoyed a meteoric ascent in the world of progressive and organic house. On the strength of a contribution to One Of A Kind's 'Melody Masters Exclusive' collection, Nicolas would go on to record projects for Amulanga, Kindisch, Melody Of The Soul, Musique de Lune and Renaissance, amongst others. Now, fresh off a remix for Blackhole offshoot Songspire, Nicolas returns to Or Two Strangers alongside label debutant Federico Monachesi for a two-track showcase ‘Elevation’.

Beginning with the uplifting qualities of the title selection, the duo aims squarely for the dancefloor. A smooth percussive intro sets the pace for balmy atmospheres and hopeful melodies to emerge, as plush chord stabs add swing and character to the groove. Its lively percussive presence carves out an energetic path into the break, bringing with it a sense of youthful anticipation. Clocking in at a minute in length, the interlude allows the main melodies to breathe, flowing through tasteful modulation while a trance-inducing backdrop sets the stage for a rejuvenating finale.

Rounding out the release are the energetic qualities of 'Dioptase', a track where the Argentinean duo maintains their dancefloor minded sensibility. A dark groovy aesthetic is quickly revealed, as buzzing stabs and swirling textures balance a loud-soft dynamic perfectly. Moving forward, holographic synths flash through a backdrop of reverent textures, before a cascading lead takes centrestage for an exhilarating conclusion to round out the EP on an epic note.
