False Intentions – Cairo [Deepwibe Underground]

Deepwibe Underground continues a strong summer season by welcoming False Intentions back to the label for a new EP. The UK artist has become a regular contributor to the Russian imprint since first appearing in October of 2018. Four appearances across 2019 along with outings for Dynamica and Songspire made False Intentions a top up and comer in the progressive music landscape. Now following a release for CNTRL Records to begin 2020, the UK artist returns to Deepwibe Underground with 'Cairo'.

Beginning with the groovy sounds of the title cut you get an immediate sense that False Intentions has once again stretched his sonic palette. Tastefully melodic, it’s bouncy arps, vibrant rhythms and placid atmospheres converge for a gorgeous first act. Vocal wails and charming overlays add depth and emotion, before segueing into a dreamy break which carries a lovely sense of refinement. A smooth build is executed through subtle modulation and a wave of while noise, perfectly setting up a glowing finale.

Continuing with ‘Radius of a Circle’ False Intentions brings a bit more energy with heavier percussion and a greater sense of drive. Acid lines percolate, building momentum as the narrative evolves, while further percussive layers add dynamic moments. This one is all about flow and subtle shifts in tension, all carried out though two timely breaks and well crafted transitions.

Capping off the release are the deeper qualities of ‘Silent’. Perhaps the most subversive of the three, it relies on chunky grooves, meandering melodies and vocal fragments to carry it’s rolling foundation. A perfect mid-set piece perhaps and one with rhythm and flow to spare. It rounds out three fresh and inspired cuts from False Intentions who makes an impressive return to Deepwibe Underground.
