JFR's Secret Feelings enters the spring season by welcoming Eugenio Sanchez Moreno to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Argentina, Eugenio Sanchez Moreno has emerged from his country's progressive and organic house scene as an artist to watch. A series of releases in 2023 via 3rd Avenue and Future Avenue brought attention to the talented La Plata resident, a rising force who had firmly established a groovy yet atmospheric sound. Moving forward, 2024 would see further successes, as Eugenio built on that early momentum with a consistent and more prolific release schedule, one highlighted by projects for Dreamers, Droid9 South America and RYNTH, amongst others. Now, fresh off a five-track showcase for Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint to begin the year, Eugenio Sanchez Moreno adds Secret Feelings to his resume with 'In My Land'.
The dark crunchy vibes of the title track sets the pace for Eugenio's ‘In My Hand’ collection. Punchy kick drums and frayed percussive arrangements lay the foundation for phasing stabs, clustered claps and sweeping effects to paint a captivating storyboard. Meanwhile, a rolling percussive break delivers all the anticipation and tension needed for a siren-like synth flair to spark a finale that is both chunky and prophetic.
Selection two 'Brotherhood' lands with a deeper more atmospheric sensibility, as Eugenio flexes his creative prowess across the eight-minute piece. Hazy textural refrains and calming overlays highlight a misty top line, continually evolving as clattering percussion and chunky bass tones deliver a palpable backroom style momentum, before a break of shimmering hypnotism segues into a finale of rolling percussion and muscular grooves.
The third and final selection 'The Light in the Darkness' closes out the EP with a peak hour approach. In energetic fashion, it's muscular grooves and thunderous beats provide the backbone for astral sonics and rolling arps to converge in a perfect cosmic marriage. Eugenio's masterstroke however is to melt the proceedings down into an emotive break, one where key changing melodies forecast a rejuvenating conclusion to round out what is a superb Secret Feelings debut for Eugenio Sanchez Moreno.
