Donny Carr – Ascension [Inspired By Trees]

Inspired By Trees opens the spring season by welcoming Donny Carr back to the label for his debut single. Born in Sacramento, California but now based in Salt Lake City, Utah, the American artist made his first appearance on the Swiss imprint in 2019 with a remix of 'Decent Groove' by Echoes. 2020 saw Donny have his most prolific year to date, compiling an excellent string of releases for Balkan Connection, Droid9, Juicebox Music and Mango Alley. Now presenting his first new music of 2021 Donny returns to Inspired By Trees with 'Ascension' alongside a remix from Guzy.

There's always been a great character about Donny's music. Something very warm and fluid which makes for effortless sounding productions, whether they be of the deeper or more robust variety. 'Ascension' has those traits in spades with a liquid-like groove providing the perfect foundation for waves of tranquil arps and immaculately manicured percussion. It's this serene narration which sets up a placid sounding break to work forward through a gentle yet exhilarating build and on wards to a purring finale.

The release concludes with Guzy returning to the label and providing the lone interpretation of 'Ascension'. The German artist first appeared on the Swiss imprint in May of last year with a remix of Dole & Kom's 'Around'. With a style that sits in the space between progressive house and melodic house & techno, the Berlin resident has compiled an impressive resume with releases coming courtesy of DUNKELHEIT, Underyourskin Records and his own Radikon imprint. Now returning to Inspired By Trees for his second remix Guzy rounds out the release with a deeper take on 'Ascension'. The serene qualities of the original are well maintained but with a greater emphasis put on effects and atmospheric scope. This breathes really well which makes all the electronic trickery and percussive flurries sound so wonderful in the mix, not to mention a lengthy break which pulls you into it's colourful, arp driven vortex. Heady stuff from Guzy which caps off an excellent return to Inspired By Trees for both himself and Donny Carr. Don't miss it.
