DJ Zombi – Breakfast of Champion [Beat Boutique]

Beat Boutique returns with a much anticipated single from label boss Eli Baltsan aka DJ Zombi. It’s always a special occasion when the Israeli artist lands back on his home imprint. The follow-up to May’s ‘Crypto Maniacs’ is finally here and it comes with two heavyweight remixes from D-Nox & K.A.L.I.L. and Praveen Achary.

Zombi has been pegged as a genreless artist for some time and ‘Breakfast Of Champion’’ is a prime example of why. There’s a variety of influences here, most notably afro, with a spirited vocal chant and of course a wide array of excellent drums. What’s most impressive though is the tracks flow, uniquely storyboarded for a variety of primary motifs, it’s a three act affair which should resonate strong on a plethora of dance floors.

D-Nox & K.A.L.I.L. have been a formidable duo this year with an amazing interpretation of Dousk’s ‘Psychobabble’ released courtesy of Beat Boutique in August. Now returning to the label for their second joint appearance the duo provide a stunning rendition of ‘Breakfast of Champion’. The elements get used wonderfully in more of a progressive techno context, making it an ideal complement to the original. There’s a soulful spirit locked inside this one, emanating from the vocal elements which get used perfectly, highlighting a short but hugely emotive break, before effortlessly shifting energy into a stripped back drop. Perfectly dialled for an educated dance floor.

The release concludes with Praveen Achary making his label debut following remixes for Mango Alley and Spaghetti Monster. The Indian artist and Juicebox Music label boss chooses his projects wisely and this is certainly a great choice. Excellent original elements combined with Praveen’s creativity and attention to detail make for a powerful rendition. The groove is immediately infectious; warm, full and with a killer roll, it proves to be the perfect foundation for a hip swinging core. Heavily reliant on fresh ideas, it is dramatically different from the original, which I for one always hope a remix will be. Gentle chord stabs combined with some lovely work on the vocal elements and two strong, spacey motifs make for a concise and highly emotive journey. Likely one of Praveen’s all time best remixes if not the best. Definitely one to get any dance floor moving and great end to another on the money release from DJ Zombi and Beat Boutique. Highly recommended.
