Montreal’s Strange Town Recordings welcomes Daraspa back to the label for his debut single. The Dutch artist first appeared on the Canadian imprint in October of 2016 with a remix of Michael A’s ‘2677 Miles’. Also owning releases on Juicebox Music, KDB and Sound Avenue, Daraspa now finds his way back to Strange Town for his first single in collaboration with Amber Long.

Most progressive music fans should be familiar with Canadian artist Amber Long. The Toronto resident has recorded vocals for some of the underground’s most cutting edge talent and is also a super producer herself. It’s led to support from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren as well as releases on Einmusika, Flow Vinyl and her own Modern Agenda imprint. The cross pollination of Daraspa’s dark, dramatic and undeniably modern progressive framework, along with Amber’s haunting yet highly emotive vocals are a match made in harmonic heaven. Her distinctive chops elicit such a broad range of emotions and Daraspa’s free flowing narrative provides the perfect canvas, which makes for a highly enjoyable six minute journey. For the less vocally inclined there is also a dub mix as well.

The lone interpretation of ‘Whispers In The Dark’ is provided by Paul Kardos who is making his label debut. The Hungarian artist came up in the progressive scene by winning a Perspectives Digital remix competition after which he quickly became a frequent contributor to the label. Paul has also found a home on the surging Colombian imprint Clubsonica and he now makes his much anticipated debut on Strange Town with a top notch remix. Paul’s roots are firmly planted in pure progressive house and it definitely shines through on his ‘Whispers In The Dark’ interpretation. It’s deep, shapely groove is full of warmth and amazing character while a wealth of dreamy motifs slowly fill in the framework. The percussion is incredibly organic, very fluid and effortless sounding and although his take on the vocal elements is an indistinct one it’s that subtly which makes for a powerful narrative at precisely the right moments. Superb remix from Paul which caps off another stellar release from Strange Town Recordings. Highly Recommended.
