Argentinean artist Daniel Curotto has been a fixture of the progressive house underground for the better part of a decade. On the strength of early tracks ‘Rising Sun’ and ‘Far Earth’ Daniel established a groovy nostalgic sound which made him a name to watch going forward. Releases for Mistique Music and Polyptych would follow across the next three calendar years, further establishing Daniel as a progressive house talent. 2023 would see the Argentine rise to greater heights with key projects via Libertas and INU Musica. Now, as Golden Wings celebrates their 50th release and first in almost two years, they welcome Daniel to the label with ‘Mediterraneo’ alongside remixes from (in order of appearance) Gai Barone, Ranj Kaler and East Cafe. The original mix leads the release off in grand fashion and only furthers Daniel’s mesmerizing sound. Strong kick drums and a backdrop of glowing textural bliss provide the anchor for layers of flickering percussion and timely melodic clusters. Cruising effortlessly across the first movement, there's a strong sense of flow, as chunky bass stabs and orchestral motifs, not only add a buoyant swing, but an emotive rise leading into a calming break. Hazy harmonics, phasing sonics and orbiting effects continue to elevate mood as the centrepiece takes shape, conjuring up bucolic imagery, before a tasteful build spearheads an uplifting finale. Providing the first interpretation of ‘Mediterraneo’ is Gai Barone who makes his label debut. With an esteemed career stretching the better part of two decades Gai Barone has become one of electronic music’s most sought after artists. The renowned musician and Italian native has long been one of the industry's most fascinating producers. An unrivalled quest for the creation of something uniquely memorable and deeply moving has fuelled his sonic journey. As a true craftsman, it is this drive for excellence that makes each one of Gai’s studio creations met with much anticipation. Afterglow, Bedrock, Lost & Found and more have been landing spots for some of his most notable work, while progressive music trendsetters such as Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and more have been steadfast supporters along the way. Now in a year which has already seen Gai deliver projects for Dreaming Awake, Vapour Recordings and his own Patterized imprint, the Italian makes his Golden Wings debut with a sensational remix of ‘Mediterraneo’. Already supported by Anthony Pappa, Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo, the latter of which aired the remix during his famed Sunsetstrip set, this is certainly a remix you’ll be hearing a lot across 2024. Booming yet dreamy, its electric vibe instantly commands your attention, through snatches of panning chord stabs and siren-like synth flares, eventually arriving at a textural break to further enchant the listener. Here, its atmospheric energy turns over beautifully, as effects intensify and sonics swirl, cleverly co-axing for a hair-raising crescendo and suitably thunderous drop. The second interpretation is provided by Ranj Kaler who makes his label debut following releases via Mirabilis Records and PolyAmber. On the backing of support from Guy Gerber and Nick Warren, amongst others, the London based artist has made a name for himself with a borderless sound that oftentimes finds a creative space in Afro House, Breaks, Progressive House and Melodic House and Techno. For his ‘Mediterraneo’ interpretation he opts for a nostalgic progressive approach with great success. Key changing grooves lay the foundation for clattering percussive arrangements and rippling rhythms to carve a path into an emotive break. Here, Ranj’s musical prowess shines with a heartfelt theme and timely vocal phrasing taking centrestage, bringing with them hopeful moments, before shifting energy into a balmy summer-inspired finale. The release concludes with progressive house veteran East Cafe returning to the label for the third and final interpretation of ‘Mediterraneo’. With a career that stretches the better part of two decades, Hungarian artist East Cafe has firmly etched his place in progressive house lore. Releases via Balkan Connection, Clubsonica and Proton Music, combined with support from John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren stand as career achievements. Golden Wings has also been a comfortable home for East Cafe, with five appearances since making his debut in 2014. Now, following a single for Embliss Records to begin the year, East Cafe makes a welcome return to Golden Wings with a melodic take on ‘Mediterraneo’. Aptly coined ‘Balearic’ mix, East Cafe focuses on an uplifting narrative throughout, but with a tough, driving and extremely club-effective groove to anchor all of his melodic wizardry. The main break proves to be expansive and Ibiza-tinged in equal measure, as indistinct vocals and sun-drenched melodies drift amidst colourful textures, before a broken-beat section ultimately spearheads a goosebump-inducing finale to round out the release on a high note.
