Argentinean artist Ezequiel Arias has enjoyed a litany of successes across his now decade-long career. As a perennial staple in the sets of progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, the Cordoba resident has emerged as one of the genre’s elite producers in recent years. Anjunadeep, Odd One Out, Replug and Sudbeat have been recent vehicles for his groovy sounds, while his highly regarded DJ sets continue to see him grace some of world's trendiest venues and festivals. The latest edition of our free download series welcomes ASTRØ for his first appearance. Based in Lebanon, ASTRØ first came to our attention earlier this year with a release via MoBlack Records. Landing in May and supported by a wide range of electronic music trendsetters, the double a-side release found the Beirut resident crafting two tracks rich in spirit and allusion. Also gaining considerable playtime amongst the world’s elite DJs this year has been ASTRØ’s take on ‘Leave the World Behind’ by Swedish House Mafia. The latest edition of our free download series welcomes Arude for his first appearance. As a fixture of the electronic underground for the better part of a decade, Ukrainian artist Arude is perhaps best known for his twenty-plus appearances on long-standing Berlin imprint Steyoyoke. It was this creative swell which set the stage for more recent projects via Beatfreak, Eklektisch, Radikon and Renaissance, all of which have been ideal landing spots for his elusive sound. An in-demand remixer for sometime, it was earlier this year that Arude took to re-interpreting ‘The Sound of Violence’ by French electro duo Cassius. Originally released in 2002 via Virgin Records and highlighted by vocals from Steve Edwards, the dancefloor anthem has the distinction of being the duo’s only track to reach #1 in the hugely influential Billboard Music Charts. The latest edition of our free download series welcomes Pongo for their first appearance. Based in Italy and made up of real-life brothers Giovanni and Daniele Bruni, Pongo first emerged in 2017 with a pair of EPs via Connected Frontline. Remixed by Aaaron and Artbat, and finding favour with a broad selection of electronic music tastemakers, the releases quickly established the duo’s neatly produced, club-centric sound. A string of projects for Booka Shade’s Blaufield Music soon followed, before the duo found a more permanent home on Marc Romboy’s long-standing Systematic imprint. In a year that has seen Pongo release seven original productions and a remix, the duo also took to re-imagining the 1979 disco-pop classic ‘Moskow Disko’ by Belgian band Telex. May of 2020 marked the Argentinean artist's first contribution to our series with his gorgeous rework of ‘Unconditional’ by Freya Ridings. The Chacabuco resident continued to find success across the remainder of the year, with Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden being the landing spot for Bautista’s ‘Eternal Seconds’. Forging a bond with the legendary DJ and regarded label, Bautista returned for a second appearance in July of this year with a contribution to the label’s ‘Summer Collection’. In addition to his original projects, Bautista turned his attention to reworking ‘Mariners Apartment Complex’ by Lana Del Rey. The end result was a deep, emotive gem that has garnered play and support from Tony McGuinness, Eelke Kleijn and Marsh.
