Benja Molina – Meridian [Soundteller Records]

Coming off the massive success of Radieux's 'Waterfalls and Us', Deersky's Soundteller Records welcomes Benja Molina to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Spain, Benja Molina first emerged in 2009 with releases via 2Real and Sunset Rec. where his club friendly sound flourished. Evolving as an artist over the next decade, the Madrid resident would adopt a deeper more contemporary sound, eventually leading to projects for Massive Harmony Records and Monkey League. The last calendar year has seen the Spaniard become more prolific, beginning with an EP for Deepwibe Underground, a release which was quickly followed with key outings via Droid9, Freegrant Music and more. Now, adding Soundteller Records to his resume, Benja debuts on the label with 'Meridian'.

With title track 'Meridian' Benja does what he does best and that's craft a deep and satisfying progressive journey. Big muscular beats and full rolling grooves set the course for delicate melodies and impassioned overlays. Elaborate clusters delight as the break approaches, only to get washed away in a haze of textural colour across the interlude, before a gentle build cues a classy drop and grooved out finale.

The companion piece 'Tomorrow' lands with equal and perhaps more power as it's stompy beats and clattering percussion set the piece in motion. A stunning effects narrative soon follows, creating a cosmic sense of space, before eventually breaking off into a swirling, atmospheric centrepiece and deeply musical conclusion. It caps off an excellent two-track showcase from Benja, an artist who continues to emerge and impress across the progressive music landscape. Highly recommended.
