BAYCA, Halishan, Alex T – Back to Civilization [Dopamine White]

The latest release from Nikko.Z’s Dopamine White welcomes Halishan, Bayca and Alex - T to the label for their debut EP. Hailing from Sri Lanka, Tunisia and Sri Lanka respectively, this trio of artists have all achieved measurable success in their solo careers. With a combined discography that includes releases via Bonzai, Innerselves, Symmetric, Timeless Moment and more, the trio has more than made their mark with a sound that often finds the creative space between progressive house and melodic house and techno. Now, combining their extensive forces for Dopamine White, Halishan, Bayca and Alex - T debut on the label with ‘Back to Civilization’.

The EP’s first selection ‘Sound of Echoes’ is provided by Halishan & Alex - T. Having worked on previous projects for Cafe De Anatolia, Elastic Dimension and Symmetric, the duo’s creative synergy continues to grow on their Dopamine debut. Complete with many of the duo’s beloved production hallmarks, it’s a stripped down chunky groove which sets the pace for hopeful vocal pads, vibrant tones and uniquely polished percussion to create a timeless storyboard leading into the break. Melting down to the vocal pads and wispy effects creates an air of anticipation across the interlude, before a pitch-bending arp emerges for grooved out finale.

The EP’s second and final selection finds Halishan and Bayca collaborating on ‘Mesopotamia’. With a tough percussive framework the duo’s craftsmanship reveals itself across the expansive journey, one where punchy kick drums and low-slung bass lines get peppered with skittering rhythms and carefully placed atmospheric refrains. Both intimate and wide-ranging, it's a meditative break which engulfs your attention whole, creating a ceremonial backdrop for misty glitches and cross-cultural overtones to paint a scenic storyboard onwards to a rejuvenating finale.
