Hailing from Argentina, AxeLara has been a frequent contributor to Just Movement since making his label debut in 2017. Following a contribution to the Summer VA series, The Mar del Plata resident has gone on to record eleven originals and remix across five years. With Manual Music’s MNL division and Kaito Aman’s Terasonic Records also serving as recent landing spots for Axe’s progressive sound, the Argentinean artist now finds his way back to Just Movement for a much-anticipated EP entitled ‘Aglaia / True Lies’, alongside remixes from Alex O’Rion and Sebastian Sellares. Drawing on a variety of classic progressive concepts, the EP begins with ‘Aglaia’. Here AxeLara works warm beats and mounds of perfectly contoured bass with vibrant arps and a lively percussive cadence. Fluid and buoyant in equal measure, an evolving emotive narrative with nostalgic chord changes paves the way into a glowing break which is sure to steal some hearts on the dance floor. The companion piece ‘True Lies’ proves to be a worthy complement with its deep, driving energy. Muscular beats power the groove, while percolating rhythms and mysterious vocal elements add space and intrigue. Continuing to evolve as the main break commences, ominous overlays and pensive chord changes create a unique emotional response, before eventually melting down into a classy drop and smooth finale. Returning to the label and providing the lone interpretation of ‘Aglaia’ is Alex O’Rion. Rising out of a successful career as a trance producer, Dutch artist Alex O'Rion took inspiration from the likes of John Digweed, Nick Warren and Sasha, to forge a path into the world of progressive house. Alex's groovy melodic sound found its footing quickly thereafter, as he notched releases via Nick Warren's Hope Recordings and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music. Moving forward, 2020 proved to be a breakout year for the Nijkerk resident. On the strength of projects for Replug and The Soundgarden, Alex rose to Beatport's #3 best-selling progressive house producer, paving the way for 2021 releases via Guy J's Lost & Found and UK behemoth Anjunabeats. With Alex’s Just Movement debut coming in 2020 with a remix of ‘Exapsis’ by Paul Angelo, Don Argento and Tash, the Dutch artist now finds his way back to the label for a spirited take on ‘Aglaia’. Taking a cue from the original while adding a contemporary state of mind, the Dutch artist carves out a warm, chunky groove adorned with flickering percussive arrangements and soulful synth swagger. Effervescent effects and emotive phrasing continue to advance the journey, creating a colourful canopy along the way, while a heartfelt break resets the framework for a smooth, key changing finale. The release concludes with Sebastian Sellares making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘True Lies’. Hailing from one of Argentina’s most talent-rich regions in Cordoba, Sebastian Sellares has taken his melodic sound to some of progressive music’s premiere imprints. UK behemoth Anjunadeep, Antrim’s Or Two Strangers, GMJ and Matter’s meanwhile and US powerhouse Proton Music have all served as landing spots for the Argentine’s beloved sound, while world class DJs Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J have been steadfast supporters along the way. In what would have to be considered Sebastian’s most prolific year to date, the fast-rising phenom now makes his Just Movement debut with a peak time rendition of ‘True Lies’. In taking the original’s sensibility Sebastian goes a level up with driving percussive arrangements and full rolling grooves. From this confident club energy comes smooth atmospheric phrasing and buoyant rhythms leading in the break. Looking to bring further emotion to the narrative, percussion gently fades and atmosphere rises across the centrepiece, planting gentle splashes of serotonin along the way, before ultimately breaking off into a heads down finale. A sensational remix from Sebastian, rounding out what is another excellent project from Just Movement stalwart AxeLara. Don’t miss it.
