Axel Giova – Crescendo [Eat My Hat Music]

Opening the Spring season, Ziger's Eat My Hat Music welcomes Axel Giova to the label for his debut single. Hailing from Argentina, Axel Giova first emerged in 2020 with a release via Omnia Rec. On the strength of remixes from Kamilo Sanclemente, the EP found a near perfect balance between organic, melodic and progressive house. The next two calendar years would see further successes for Axel, landing standout releases for Freegrant Music and Magnitude Recordings. Now, following an appearance on Steyoyoke's 'Perception' collection to begin the year, Axel makes his Eat My Hat debut with 'Crescendo', alongside remixes from Ziger and Kamilo Sanclemente.

Getting the release underway with the original mix, Axel marries warm key-changing grooves with buoyant rhythms and inviting electronics. Sleek and energetic, an enticing array of arps elevates mood across the first act, as shimmering effects and clattering percussive arrangements provide a bridge into the main break. Balmy atmospheres and effervescent chord stabs rise across the interlude, creating moments of anticipation and emotion, as an eventual zenith is reached with hazy harmonics and a tasteful drum flurry spearheading an uplifting finale.

The first interpretation of 'Crescendo' is provided by Eat My Hat label boss Ziger. The much-loved Greek artist comes off a successful 2022 which included a collection of memorable projects. Whether being paired with occasional studio partner Mind Conspiracy or operating in solo capacity, Ziger has added nicely to his resume across the year. A string of successful releases for Eat My Hat proved to be the highlight, with ICONYC and SLC-6 Music also playing host to his cutting-edge sounds. Now, presenting his first new music of 2023, Ziger dials in an excellent rendition of 'Crescendo'. Drawing inspiration from the original, Ziger layers misty atmospheres and arcane electronics atop punchy beats and rippling grooves. Mysterious and thought-provoking throughout, it's a heady amalgamation of sound which makes for an energetic yet atmospheric journey, elegantly melting down to deconstructed vocals and ethereal phrasing across a one-minute interlude, before a mystical final act puts a cap on this otherworldly gem.

The release concludes with Kamilo Sanclemente making his label debut with the second and final interpretation of 'Crescendo'. As one of progressive music's most beloved names, the Cali resident has a litany of successes over the last decade. Prolific and consistent in equal measure, Kamilo has earned the praise of genre tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while showcasing his music via Anjunadeep, The Soundgarden, Replug and more. Now, fresh off a contribution to All Day I Dream's 'Winter Sampler', Kamilo makes his Eat My Hat debut with a gorgeous take on 'Crescendo'. Built around a deep thumping framework, Kamilo focuses on rhythm and groove across the first act, nicely balanced with a healthy dose of arpeggiated sequences with colourful effects. Looking to bring greater emotional depth, the main break unveils a gorgeous primary theme, delicately dancing across poignant vocal phrasing and filtered arps, as modulation peaks for a groovy finale. A gorgeous conclusion to an excellent Eat My Hat debut for Axel Giova, an artist who looks to have a breakout year as 2023 unfolds.
