Ash Mellor & Steve Fokas – Because of You [Musique de Lune Noire]

Presenting their second release, Musique de Lune's Noire division welcomes Ash Mellor & Steve Fokas to the label for their debut single. Hailing from the UK, Ash Mellor is perhaps best known for being half of the Sixty Feet Deep artist moniker. Inspired by the likes of such as John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Sasha, Sixty Feet Deep would make their debut in 2017 with a well-received single via Tears, before going on to release a four-track artist showcase via Brian Cid's Endangered imprint. Meanwhile, Steve Fokas has enjoyed similar success since first emerging in 2020. It was a six-track EP via Endangered which won over progressive and melodic house & techno fans alike, a release which ultimately led to an equally large follow-up via Endangered late last year. Now, combining their extensive forces for the first time, Ash and Steve make their Musique de Lune Noire debut with 'Because Of You', alongside remixes from Vlad Jet and Gersh.

The Original Mix finds Ash and Steve masterfully synthesizing their talents into one singular charming vision. Deep and inviting from the outside, it's tough beats, spacious grooves and cosmic effects set the course for a variety of ghostly vocal fragments and nostalgic arps. Hopeful pads add depth and space across the second act, as the vocal narrative expands onwards to a tastefully elegant finale.

Making his label debut and providing the first remix of 'Because of You' is Gersh. The Israeli artist emerged in the indie-dance scene last year with a contribution to Maccabi House's 'All Stars 02' collection, before going on to record projects for Nein Records and Rotten City Files. Now bringing a fresh approach to 'Because of You', Gersh aims squarely for the dance floor with big breakbeats and electric rhythms anchoring soaring chords and deconstructed vocals. Tension and drama are at a premiere across a well-constructed second act, as atmosphere melts away and rhythm and groove perfectly segue into a muscular build and ultrasonic conclusion. Perfect for a peak time dance floor.

The release concludes with Vlad Jet also making his label debut with the second and final remix of 'Because of You'. The Ukrainian artist has been a fixture of the electronic underground for over a decade, releasing his brand of melodic house and indie dance via Disco Halal, JEAHMON! Records and Sincopat, in turn earning support from Adam Port, Agoria and Moscoman and more. Here he brings a unique approach to 'Because of You' with retro-grooves, trippy arps and a thought-provoking atmospheric backdrop. A nostalgic rendition from Vlad Jet which makes for excellent Musique de Lune Noire debuts for himself, Gersh, Ash Mellor and Steve Fokas. Don't miss it.
