Aphasia (ofc) – Fractured Shadows [Astral Records]

Astral Records rounds out the month of March by welcoming Aphasia (ofc) to the label for his debut single. Born and raised in Greece, Aphasia was exposed to the sounds of electronic music at a young age and has continued on that path. Already an accomplished DJ, the Greek artist has shared the stage with like minded talents such as Mathame and Woo York. Now, after years of honing his studio skills, Aphasia arrives with an obscure yet compelling sound design, consisting of mystifying atmospheres and mind-bending leads, aimed to take the listener on a dark and groovy voyage. Astral Records serves as the the perfect vehicle for Aphasia's much anticipated debut 'Fractured Shadows', alongside remixes from Paul Angelo & Don Argento and Maarten Spoor.

Taking cues from the early sounds of Tale of Us and Mind Against, Aphasia crafts a moody journey into the darker depths of melodic house & techno with 'Fractured Shadows'. With a mysterious and deeply compelling architecture built around buzzing sonics and icy synth mutations, it's a series of peaks and valleys which ultimately for such a memorable dancefloor experience, one where a prophetic break cleverly coaxes the primary themes for a cosmic finale.

Returning to the label for the first interpretation of 'Fractured Shadows' are Paul Angelo & Don Argento. With a career that spans the better part of a decade, Cyprus based duo Paul and Don have achieved measurable success, taking their melodic sound to influential imprints such as Future Romance, Movement, Timeless Moment, UV Noir and more. Astral Records has also served as a landing spot for the talented act, recording six originals across three releases since making their label debut in 2021 with the 'Icarus' EP. Closing out 2023 with a contribution to Solee's Future Romance 'Sonos Futures' collection, the duo now returns to Astral with a heady take on 'Fractured Shadows'. With a creative approach, Paul and Don remodel the track into a smooth meditative slice of melodic techno. Bound together by a hypno-architecture, it's a blend of shapeshifting effects, moody atmospherics and finely manicured percussion which ultimately carries this cruising journey, one where Paul and Don unlock a refined part of their studio repertoire.

The release concludes with Maarten Spoor making his label debut with the second and final interpretation of 'Fractured Shadows'. Hailing from the Netherlands, Maarrten Spoor is one the new upcoming talents in the world of melodic house & techno. A 2023 debut via Rob Hes' Pursuit Records was well-received, setting the course for his first official EP release later that same year via Dutch imprint Nova Collective. Continuing on an upwards trajectory, the Amsterdam's resident began 2024 with a contribution to the third installment of New Tab's recently coined 'Opera' series. Now, adding Astral Records to his resume Maarten delivers his first official remix, taking 'Fractured Shadows' into dark and devilish territory. Taking inspiration from the original, the Dutch artist brings more of a contemporary feel to the track through techno-inspired beats, buzzing basslines and rippling rhythms. it's a smooth energy-rush aimed squarely at the dancefloor - one where Maarten further solidifies himself as one of the genre's most talented new artists.
