Andy King – Neptune [Soundteller Records]

Following on from a remix of Lemon8's 'A Better Place', Andy King returns to Deersky's Soundteller Records with 'Neptune'. 2022 also the yielded the excellent 'Catena', a powerful single which landed in April alongside remixes from Dowden and Monojoke. With the entirety of Andy's 2022 musical output this year coming courtesy of Soundteller, it's safe to say the Glasgow resident has grown into one of the Polish imprints core artists. Now, as the year winds to a close, Andy returns to the label with a new single alongside remixes from Christian Monique and Ignacio Berardi.

The original mix hits with a resounding thump, as a classic progressive groove lays the foundation for effervescent percussion and rolling rhythms. It's this smooth and infectious swing which ultimately sets the stage for a hugely emotive break. Approaching two minutes in length, Andy once again crafts a memorable interlude, with radiant atmospheres, percolating arps and goosebump-inducing bass swells uniting for a powerful drop and magical dance floor moment.

Also returning to the label is Christian Monique who provides the first remix of 'Neptune'. The Italian artist reshapes the groove into one with thunderous, machine gun style drive, while a nice assortment of wispy effects and shapeshifting atmospheres lead the way into a stunning break. Emotive and tense in equal measure, the interlude makes great use of colour and texture with its cosmic creativities and poignant synth phrasing, ultimately setting up a key changing finale.

The release concludes with Ignacio Berardi providing the second and final interpretation of 'Neptune'. In a year highlighted by a release via Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, the Argentinean artist delivers one of his all time best remixes here. Played out over seven groovy minutes, it's a retro bassline which provides the backbone for clattering percussion and spacey arps to blaze a trail into the break. Focused less on the emotive qualities of the original, Ignacio opts to keep tension at a premium across the centrepiece, making it an ideal midset selection. A huge remix from the Rosario resident which caps off an excellent return to Soundteller for himself, Christian Monique and Andy King. Don’t miss it.
