Hailing from Ireland but now calling Australia home, Alan Thomas Doyle aka Amhain has achieved measurable success across his career. An enthusiastic attitude towards experimentation, coupled with extraordinary creative vision has made the Sydney resident one of his country’s noteworthy talents in progressive house. Releases via Balance Music, Mango Alley, Meanwhile, Proton Music and Vapour Recordings, amongst others; sit as discography highlights, while genre tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren have been supporters along the way. Also an accomplished DJ, Amhain has been a fixture of Australia’s burgeoning nightlife for the better part of a decade, performing at renowned festivals Rainbow Serpent and Subsonic, while also showcasing his skills abroad at American events such as Burning Man and Lightning in a Bottle. With 2025 already yielding an impressive vehicle for Musique de Lune, Amhain continues on an upwards trajectory, making his Higher States debut with ‘Dream One’. From the opening monochromes of ‘Dream One’, Amhain’s craftsmanship reveals itself across the slow-burning piece, making for an unforgettable journey. Wistful toplines, chunky grooves, and nostalgic vocal elements unite in cosmic fashion, the latter of which tastefully recalls Quivver’s infamous Space Maneuveres project. Sitting at the heart of the piece lies a cavernous break, where orbiting effects and subterranean swells become instantly seductive, creating a vast sense of space, before effortlessly shifting energy into a finale of utopian-style ecstasy. The collection’s midway point is marked by the hypno-architecture of ‘Unencumbered’. Trickling reverberations and gentle strokes of tonal tension wade through its pulsating framework, with frayed effects and reverberated rhythms submerged beneath a buzzing panoramic glow. A strong sense of cruising carries momentum into a break of retro-radiance, perfectly setting up a meditative conclusion.
