A SKITZO – Against US [Moonchild Records]

The latest release from Moonchild Records welcomes A SKITZO to the label for his debut EP. Since first appearing in 2014, the Bosnian artist has found a unique footing in the electronic underground with releases on ICONYC, Lump Records, Manual Music and Soundteller Records. Often sitting in the creative space been house and techno, A SKITZO now debuts on Moonchild with 'Against Us' alongside a remix from Biotech Patagonia.

Continuing to diversify his portfolio A SKITZO presents two very unique creations here beginning with the title cut. Its warm, chunky groove is perfectly contoured, adorned with organic drums, fragmented vocals and astral effects. It's a unique amalgamation of sounds, ultimately leading to a spoken word vocal narrative which adds depth and intrigue, before eventually melting down into a final act highlighted by buzzing synths. The companion piece ‘Diver’ comes with more esoteric qualities making it an ideal complement to it's predecessor. Quirky synth hooks and retro arps adorn the stripped, punchy groove, before a symphonic lead theme brings a more emotive slant to the narrative. Beautifully crafted, the main break showcases this wonderfully, perfectly seguing into a deeper and even more poignant finale.

The release concludes with Biotech Patagonia also making their label debut and providing the lone interpretation of 'Against Us'. The Argentinean duo are fresh off EPs for Awen Records and Natura Viva Black, while also delivering a remix for Running Clouds to begin the year. Now landing on Moonchild they turn in a strong rendition of 'Against Us' to close out the release. Dark and driving, the percussive groove commands a large presence as electric rhythms and astral artifacts adorn the framework. Evolving with precision, bold stabs and elastic arps bring dynamic moments, as a hopeful overlay adds drama and emotion. Haunting drifts highlight the main break, delivering palpable tension before indistinct vocals and trailing effects set up a charged build and electric final movement.
