Taylan – Angeleno [RKP]

Continuing to add exciting new talent to their roster, Ruben Karapetyan’s RKP welcomes Taylan to the label for his debut EP. Based in Los Angeles, Taylan first emerged in 2021 with a series of melodic house and techno releases via his musicbytaylan imprint. Immediately recognized for his astral sound, Taylan would go on a creative swell across the next two calendar years, landing key projects via Beatfreak, Manual Music, Steyoyoke and more, making him a rising talent to watch going forward. 2023 furthered Taylan’s evolution as an artist and proved to be his best year to date, with impressive debuts for Clubsonica and Movement displaying more of a progressive sound. Now, fresh off a well-received debut for Freegrant Music to begin 2024, Taylan continues on an upwards trajectory, adding RKP to his resume with a three-track showcase entitled ‘Angeleno’.

Beginning with the title selection, Taylan showcases a deeper side of repertoire which sets the tone for the EP. Full of rich textures and colours, the Los Angeles resident smoothly blends meaty kick drums and warm undulating grooves with fragmented synth mutations and rolling percussion for a smooth journey into the break. Further revealing his creative attitude across the interlude, it’s a stereo field of hyperbolic arps and percolating effects which marry beautifully for a healthy dose of melodic tension, before a wave of drums cues a bass-driven drop and immersive finale.

Moving forward to ‘Delayed Reality', Taylan moves closer to peak time territory. Booming yet dreamy, its smooth cruising vibe instantly commands your attention, through snatches of flashing percussion, billowing symphonics and light melodic fragments. Dulcet piano stabs add further depth and emotion across the break, slowly building anticipation towards a soaring key-changing conclusion.

Rounding out the release are the mesmerizing sounds of 'The Omen'. Warm, compact and bursting with mysterious energies, the track's first movement is built around pulsating rhythms, spacey effects and muted chord stabs, the latter of which carries a hip-swinging energy into the break. The narrative continues to progress across interlude, with siren-like wails and buzzing bass swells cleverly coaxing, eventually revealing a calming monochrome, one which pushes onwards to a finale that is equal parts groove-centric and cosmic to cap off the release in style.
