Andre Moret – Honor [pad]

Presenting their second release of the year, pad welcomes Andre Moret to the label for his debut EP. As one of Brazil's most highly regarded progressive house artists, Andre has achieved great recognition at just four years into his career. World class DJs Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren have been regular supporters, while his smooth productions have found a home on Balkan Connection, Clubsonica, Freegrant Music, Mango Alley, Soundteller, Transensations and more. Continuing with his prolific ways, Andre now adds pad to his resume with 'Honor', alongside remixes from Kabi (AR) and rAin (MU).

The title track finds Andre crafting a sleek percussive slice of progressive house. From rhythmic beginnings comes exotic drums and a rugged, swing heavy groove. Ominous atmospheres rise around the framework creating anticipatory vibes, eventually revealing an array of delicious arps and cross-cultural motifs. Although quite indistinct, a chanting style vocal does wonders for space and vibe, while a buzzing, key changing main break delivers just the right amount of emotion to tip it over the edge. Meanwhile, the companion piece 'Someplace' shows a different side of Andre with it's cinematic soundscapes and heartfelt electronics. At six minutes in length it could be a tool for the more adventurous DJs out there or a piece that's perfect for a late night headphone listening session.

Also making his label debut is Kabi (AR) who turns in an awesome remix of 'Honor'. The Argentine has continued to impress since first emerging in 2019. Clubsonica, Juicebox Music, Mango Alley and Plattenbank have played host to his groovy sound, while Hernan Cattaneo has remained a steadfast supporter. On his 'Honor' remix Kabi (AR) provides a more than worthy complement to the original with a fuller, reshaped groove and amazing emotional response. The main break proves memorable with it's broken beat section, percolating arps and glowing overlays perfectly setting the stage for a groove-centric drop and glowing finale.

Rounding out the release is rAin (MU) who provides the second and final interpretation of 'Honor'. A well known DJ in his home country of Mauritius, the Port-Louis resident has shared the stage with Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J, Patrice Baumel and Eelke Kleijn, while showcasing his music on 3rd Avenue, Droid9 and Where The Heart Is. Now adding pad to his resume, rAin dials in a groovy rendition of 'Honor' to cap the release off in style. There is a greater atmospheric presence here, all while not losing sight of the dance floor, which a thumping, well carved foundation takes command of. The exotic percussive elements get utilized nicely also, adding bounce and swing while a prominent shaker keeps momentum driving forward. rAin opts for more of tense break as opposed to the emotional disposition of it's predecessors, building some nice drama through keeping the low-end and percussion in as icy pads and effects meander towards a satisfying final movement. It makes for a well rounded set of remixes and ultimately another great release from pad, a rising label who adds three fine artists to there roster here. Highly recommended.
