Presenting their second release of the year, Inspired By Trees welcomes Marc DePulse back to the label for a new single. Based in Germany and famed for releases via Diynamic, Parquet, Selador and his own JEAHMON! Records imprint, Marc DePulse has continued to impress and excite across his near two-decade long career. Having made his Inspired By Trees debut in 2018 with a remix of Jay Phonic's 'Fighter', the Leipzig resident forged a bond with the label, returning for his first single and a second remix across 2019 and 2020 respectively. Now on the strength of releases for Deepwithyou Recordings and Ritual to begin the year, Marc returns to Inspired By Trees with 'City Lights', alongside a remix from Lonya.

Marc has always been an exciting producer to follow, his ability to shapeshift between genres is hugely impressive, and more often than not his output lands in a territory that suits a broad range of DJs. Such is the case with 'City Lights' which has already been lighting up clubland with Its smooth energy and indie-inspired framework. The overall sense of space and drum arrangements are to die for, and with a retro synth lead and quirky effects complement its colour and cadence are hard to resist. Add to that a break which goes from tranquil to tense in fine fashion and you've got sure fire dance floor magic.

Making his label debut and providing the lone interpretation of 'City Lights' is Lonya. Based in Israel, Lonya has been a beloved figure in the global progressive scene for well over a decade. Longstanding imprints such as Beatfreak, Beat Boutique, Selador and Sudbeat have played host to his cutting-edge sound, while world class DJs Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren continue to be some of his biggest supporters. Remixes for Kitchen Recordings and Manual Music have gotten the year off to a strong start, and now he dials in an excellent rendition of 'City Lights' to continue that trajectory. Much like Marc, Lonya is always adventurous in his output, oftentimes sitting in the creative space between progressive house and melodic house & techno. He leans towards the latter here, making great use of the lead and drum elements, expertly chopping the hook heavy synths into splashes of sonic colour, until the full reveal which proves to be a huge moment across the first act. Being such a big element, Lonya plays with it carefully, building anticipation through muted chord stabs before unveiling it once more during a triumph break and groove-centric finale. Always a creative remixer, Lonya's rendition complements the original beautifully, opening the track up to an even broader audience and capping off an excellent return to Inspired By Trees for Marc DePulse. Highly recommended.
