AlexC. – Storyteller EP [Polyptych]

Polyptych opens the month of May by welcoming AlexC. to the label for his debut EP. Although a well known DJ in his home county of Italy, Alex has dedicated himself to production in recent years. His melodic techno sound is both refined and engaging, having been showcased on cutting edge labels such as Bullfinch, ONISM, Tanzgemeinschaft and Ushuaia Music. Increasingly prolific as 2021 moves forward, Alex now follows a release for Whole Story Lab with his much anticipated Polyptych debut 'Storyteller'.

Beginning with 'Apnea' Alex presents a stylish blend of melody and flow. Warm beats and a mountainous low end power the groove, while buzzing rhythms and fluid effects deliver depth and texture across the first act. Placid pads emerge as the main break begins to take shape, gently elevating mood throughout the centrepiece, before fragmented arps and astral symphonies provide a spine-tingling bridge into a soaring finale.

The title selection ‘Storyteller’ follows suit with an even greater sense of rhythm and drive. Waves of undulating bass ultimately set the course for a compelling contrast between astral sonics, percussive flurries and blissful atmospheres. Moving forward into the break, a spoken word narrative (which sounds like Matthew McConaughey), fades in and out of the stereo field, building anticipation and eventually giving way to a wave of melodic colour and suitably tasteful finale.

The third and final selection ‘Looking For A Way’ caps off the EP with more swing heavy rhythms and heady designs. A touch deeper and more emotive than its predecessors, it’s a buoyant groove which sets the course for wavy lines and wonky melodies to work their magic. Striking stabs and catchy arps rise at opportune moments coming out of the break, perfectly setting the stage for a trippy finale. It rounds out a stunning three track offering from AlexC, who makes an excellent Polyptych debut with ‘Storyteller’. Don't miss it.
