Guy J – Day Of Light / Mind Of [Lost & Found]

Lost & Found begins the new year with label boss Guy J back in the spotlight with a new EP. The Israeli born, Malta based artist captured the hearts of electronic music lovers once again in 2019. The April release of 'Synthopia / Cicada' rode a wave of success you rarely see in progressive music, enjoying a six month long stay in Beatport's sales charts, while also being two of the most memorable tracks in Guy's sets leading up to the release. August then yielded the equally impressive Clarian collaboration 'Night Rescue', a single track offering which charmed listeners with it's demure yet powerful qualities. Now landing back on his comfortable home of Lost & Found to begin 2020, Guy presents his first release of the year 'Day Of Light / Mind Of'.

Perpetually operating at a creative peak, Guy J has continued to be progressive music's leading trendsetter. On 'Day Of Light' he reinforces that sentiment with a near ten minute opus which effortlessly melds elements of deep house, progressive, trance and electronica. The end result is a uniquely emotional experience that has become synonymous with the Israeli artist. Deep and fluid throughout, it’s poignant motifs and organic designs are mysterious yet striking, backed by a warm, pulsating groove, underpinning the track and translating it’s spiritual message to the dance floor.

The second odyssey ‘Mind Of’ follows a similar sonic ethos but with a further lean into techno inspired territory. Possessing more of a dramatic undertone, exotic drums and a machine gun style groove create a boundless energy early, as piercing stabs and buzzing electronics continue to advance the narrative. A fresh rhythmic theme pushes momentum past the three minute mark as energy builds to a sonic sizzle, before melting down into a five minute outro of kaleidoscopic melodies and heartfelt modulation. Live and unpredictable, it's the standout moment on the EP for this reviewer and further reinforces that Guy is never content with resting on his laurels, instead searching for these sorts of creative flashes for which he has become so loved. A perfect ending to another exceptional offering from Lost & Found, which will no doubt resonate with music aficionados for years to come. Highly recommended.
