Various Artists – The Secrets, Vol. 1 [Clubsonica Records]

The latest release on Clubsonica Records finds the label presenting the first volume of its 'The Secrets' series. These Various Artist EP collections will showcase exclusive unreleased remixes of tracks from the label's back catalog. Featured on the first edition are (in order of appearance) Paul Hamilton, Kaban and Aeikus.

Paul Hamilton is no stranger to Clubsonica having remixed Ivanshee's 'Serpantine' in April of this year. The Dubai based artist also lays claim to an impressive discography, having showcased his music on Armada, Balkan Connection, Dear Deer and Perspectives Digital. Now making a welcome return to Clubsonica he provides a stellar update of Aeikus' 'Talk About Stars'. Taking a cue from the original, Paul once again cross pollinates genres with an effortless ease. Progressive in ethos but with a techno inspired framework, he works cinematic swells over soulful vocal phrases and momentous cymbal rides, before melting down to a quirky melodic hook which seals it's esoteric appeal.

Next up and making his label debut is Kaban who provides a new interpretation of Soluna's 'Paradigm'. The Mexican artist was a prominent figure in the progressive house underground some years ago with releases on Balkan Connection, Dopamine Music, Sound Avenue and Soundteller Records. With his last release coming in December of 2016 this marks a welcome return for the Mexico City resident. Fluid, rhythmic and undeniably groovy, Kaban takes 'Paradigm' closer to the dance floor. Exotic drums combined with timely transitions and tasteful melodic concepts make for a compelling storyboard which stays concise and reactive.

Rounding out the release is label artist Aeikus who returns for his fourth appearance. Hailing from Brazil, Athos Araujo aka Aeikus last appeared on the Colombian imprint with a contribution to the label's 'MMW 2019 Sampler'. His unique approach to composition has found favour with a broad range of DJs, most notably Adriatique, Ame and Sasha. Now returning to his comfortable home of Clubsonica he turns in a superb interpretation of Soluna's 'The Chant'. Backed by a tough, rolling groove and hypnotic arps comes cross cultural vocal elements and astral designs. Building subtlety across the first act, the piece strips down into a cavernous break where elements of tension and soul unite, before the main arp comes to life sparking a tough yet tasteful drop. A highly creative remix from Aeikus which caps off a must have first edition of Clubsonica's 'The Secrets'.
