Various Artists – Clubsonica Sampler, Vol. 6 [Clubsonica Records]

Clubsonica Records opens the summer season by unveiling the sixth edition of their popular Sampler Series. Following its debut in 2021, Clubsonica's Various Artists Sampler Series is now a regular and much anticipated offering in the label's catalog, an extensive of sorts to the imprint’s MMW and ADE showcases which operate under a similar ethos. The trending series has been a platform not only for a wide assortment of upcoming talent, but continues to add some of progressive music's most notable names with each successive edition. Genre veterans Golan Zocher, Greenage, Kamilo Sanclemente, Ric Niels, Ruben Karapetyan, amongst others, have all graced Clubsonica's much sought after Sampler Series, sitting alongside a carefully curated blend of talented up and comers. Now embarking on their sixth edition, Clubsonica boss Juan Pablo Torrez has compiled the series' most diverse volume to date, featuring new music from (in order of appearance): Armandhe, Derk, Nico Serjanovich, FJL, Golan Zocher, Liam Sieker, Nicolas Viana, Rocio Portillo, Karim Sar Sar and Valley (AR).

Getting the release underway is Armandhe who returns to the label for his fifth appearance. Upon creating the Armandhe moniker in 2018, the Colombian artist has enjoyed a steady rise through the progressive underground. Releases courtesy of Balkan Connection, Droid9, Movement Recordings and Sprout, amongst others, have been instrumental in establishing the Medellín resident. Also finding a comfortable home on Clubsonica, Armandhe has delivered two EPs and two remixes across the last six calendar years, the most recent of which was a 2021 rendition of ‘Leonids’ by British talent Etherwave. Armandhe’s storytelling style in conjunction with a less frequent release schedule has served him well, as he currently sits as one of Colombia’s best kept secrets in the landscape of progressive house. With 2023 being highlighted by a contribution to Movement’s ‘Exploring Colombia’ collection, Armandhe now returns to Clubsonica with the deep, charming sounds of ‘Encontro’, a track which serves as his first production of 2024.

The collection’s first collaboration finds Derk, FJL and Nico Serjanovich combining their extensive forces on ‘Trix’. Hailing from Argentina, this trio of talented artists lays claim to an impressive resume. Although relatively early into their production journey, the trio’s joint discography is already enviable, highlighted by releases via Droid9, Higher States, Mango Alley, Sound Avenue and Transensations, while genre trendsetters Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren have been steadfast with support. Now, in what is a first time collaboration, Derk, FJL and Nico all make their Clubsonica debut with the hypnotic vibes of ‘Trix’.
Selection three finds Clubsonica stalwart Golan Zocher and label debutant Liam Sieker also collaborating for the first time on ‘Incandescent’. Born in Colombia but now calling Israel home, Golan Zocher has firmly etched his place in progressive house lore. Following a 2016 debut, the Tel Aviv resident quickly found his place amongst the genre's elite, earning play and support from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J and Guy Mantzur. Releases via Mango Alley, Or Two Strangers, Plattenbank, Proton and Sol Selectas highlight what has been an eight-year creative swell for this elusive talent. Clubsonica has also been a regular landing spot for Golan, with five originals and two remixes recorded since making his label debut in 2017. Meanwhile, based in Melbourne, Australian artist Liam Sieker has been a fixture of his country's nightlife for the better part of a decade, programming music for trendy venues such as Killing Time, Loop Bar, Railway Hotel, and most notably Australia's world famous Revolver Upstairs. Also beloved as a producer, Liam has found a home on Nick Warren's The Soundgarden and Lee Burridge's All Day I Dream, where his progressive sound has flourished. Now, combining their extensive forces for the first time, Golan and Liam present their debut collaboration ‘Incandescent’, a track which sits as one of the most mesmerizing and deeply emotional creations of their respective careers.

Selection four finds Nicolas Viana returning to the label for his first original offering ‘Fever’. Based in Tucuman, the Argentinean artist first emerged two years ago and has enjoyed a meteoric ascent in the world of progressive and organic house. On the strength of a contribution to One Of A Kind's 'Melody Masters Exclusive' collection, Nicolas would go on to record projects for Amulanga, Flug Lab, Melody Of The Soul, Nordic Voyage, Or Two Strangers and Peace Symphonies, while electronic music tastemakers Eelke Kleijn, Hernan Cattaneo and Sabo, amongst others have all championed his work. With Nicolas’ Clubsonica debut coming earlier this month with a remix of ‘Unfaithful’ by Claudiu Adam, the Tucaman resident now returns to the label with the groovy progressive sounds of ‘Fever’.

The release concludes with Rocio Portillo, Karim Sar Sar, Valley (AR) making their label debut with ‘Rise’. Hailing from Argentina, this trio of rising artists made a memorable impression with their first collaborative effort in 2022. Released in October, their 'Ananda' EP for Madloch's 3rd Avenue caught the attention of organic and progressive house DJs alike, in turn making them a trio to watch going forward. Subsequent projects via Amulanga, Mango Alley, SLC-6 Music and Univack would land with resounding success across the next eighteen months, further establishing the trio as one of Argentina’s most intriguing artist collectives. Now, adding Clubsonica to their resume, Rocio, Karim and Valley (AR) continue their creative partnership with the mystical sounds of ‘Rise’, a track which puts a resounding stamp on another diverse and well curated edition of Clubsonica’s beloved Sampler Series.
