Various Artists – Atmospheria Volume One [Immersed]

As the summer season winds down Immersed returns with their first compilation 'Atmospheria'. The US label embarks on a unique project, taking three ambient compositions and having them re-imagined by some of electronic music's freshest talent. Featured on the first edition are nogfgoodnight, space between me & you, Tydrous who get remixed by Rylan Taggart, Paul Angelo & Don Argento and Deeparture respectively.

First up is US artist nogfgoodnight who some Trance fans may know from his alias Dove Project which was supported by the genre's top DJs such as Paul Van Dyk. Here he presents a shimmering ambient piece entitled 'A Love That Never Happened'. This highly emotive three minute excursion gets wonderfully reworked by Rylan Taggart who is best known for his releases on Where The Heart Is and Lane 8's This Never Happened imprint. Based in Vancouver, the Canadian artist takes a cue from the original and creates a hugely emotive progressive house cut that is timeless in every sense of word. Warm, fluid and impeccably produced, it's definitely one for the heart and reminds me of the Anjunadeep glory days if you will.

The second original is provided by Alexey Starshinov aka space between me and you. Hailing from St. Petersburg, the Russian artist explores introspective themes and cinematic overtones across the two minute piece. Uniquely reflective, it gets handed over to Paul Angelo & Don Argento who take it into the world of dark, chunky progressive house. The narrative is quite remarkable however, moving from an ominous first act into a hopeful break is inspired and plays off the original beautifully as well. Vocal fragments and a wave of white noise eventually blanket those emotive feelings, effortlessly shifting gears back to the dance floor for a romping final act.

The release concludes with another US artist Nick Bordo aka Tydrous. Certainly the most musical of the three originals it incorporates a gorgeous piano motif, poignant tones and glacial overlays for a heart tugging journey. Reworking the piece is Dutch artist Deeparture who is best known for his releases on ICONYC, Manual Music, Poesie Musik, Soulful Techno Records and This Never Happened. Here the Amsterdam resident turns in a joyous rework that's full of bubbly design and those gorgeous strings from the original. A perfect sonic marriage throughout, it's unabashedly epic mood feels like the perfect way to close out such a unique collection of music. It's great to see a new label like Immersed taking on such a project and it's turned out wonderfully. Can't wait to see what this US imprint does next so make sure you're following along for the ride. Highly recommended.
