Valeria Petz – Meraki [Nature Rec]

Nature Rec rounds out a strong spring season by welcoming Valeria Petz to the label for her debut EP. On strength of early tracks like 'The King' and 'Shooting Star', Argentinean Dj and producer Valeria Petz made a name for herself as an emerging artist to watch. In finding a nice balance between progressive and organic house, the Buenos Aires resident would record projects for 3rd Avenue, Omnia and Soundteller Records, before eventually finding a place on Nick Warren's The Soundgarden as part of the labels popular Winter Collection series in 2022. Now, adding Nature Rec to her resume, Valeria debuts on the label with 'Meraki', alongside remixes from Arbey Gonzalez and Dabeat.

Beginning the release is the title track and it lands with quite a bit of fanfare already. Hernan Cattaneo has been one of the track's biggest supporters leading up to the release, including the track in his live sets (most notably Forja) as well as featuring it on his Resident Podcast. It's not hard to see why Hernan has been such a great supporter with it's warm flowing grooves and balmy textures being so inviting from the outset. Sentimental synth phrasing and a wondrously musical break sit at the heart of the production, and ultimately makes for a hugely memorable journey that will resonate on a wide range of dancefloors. Meanwhile, on the companion piece 'Destino' Valeria continues with an emotive vibe as gorgeous arpeggiated sequences blanket chugging grooves and vibrant percussion, resulting in a perfect midset style track to lift the mood of a room.

Also included on the release are remixes from two of Colombia's top talents in Arbey Gonzalez and Dabeat. First up Arbey delivers a stunning interpretation of 'Meraki', giving the track a bit more of an organic vibe. The Santiago de Cali resident utilizes youthful sounding chord changes, buzzing tonal themes and a sturdy percussive framework which makes for a dreamier yet equally groovy version of the track which sounds nicely suited to a daytime dancefloor.

Closing out the release is veteran producer Dabeat who provides an equally impressive version of 'Destino'. Also calling Santiago de Cali home, DaBeat reworks the groove into something more pronounced with it's tougher character and punchy beats, while those dreamy arps provide a serene ever-growing atmospheric storyboard to get lost in. Classy stuff from DaBeat which caps off an excellent Nature Rec debut for Valeria Petz, an artist to keep an eye on as 2023 moves forward. Highly recommended.
