Releases UMEK – Once Again [1605] By Will James Posted on 30th January 2023 4 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin 1605 is back with a powerful new EP from label owner UMEK who in 2023 will be celebrating three decades of electronic music. UMEK and his 1605 record label have been responsible for a number of anthemic techno releases. The latest outing features a well-known vocal sample that’s been used to dramatic effect in the title track. Those who are familiar with the history of techno will be aware of its pioneers in Detroit and many of the tracks that have defined or influenced the genre. UMEK is one of the people who over the decades has left his mark with classic tracks like “Gatex” and his “Recycled Loops” series. Although UMEK’s sound has changed and evolved over the last 30 years, he has continued to remain an influencer and this latest release epitomises his modern style. “Once Again” is a track of mammoth proportions that is built around powerful percussion and a timeless vocal sample. Its breakdown is a tantalising section that erupts as the bassline lurches underneath a spine-tingling euphoric synth line that ends when the percussion hits back in. “Constantly Monitored” brings the release to a close with spiralling synths stabs and dramatic effects that create intense atmosphere, cut by the twisted euphoria of the trance-inspired breakdown.
