Releases Th Moy – Alchemist EP [One Of A Kind] By Release Promo Posted on 11th October 2019 6 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Th Moy makes his much anticipated One Of A Kind debut with a new five track artist showcase. Based in Girona, the Spanish artist has amassed an impressive discography over the course of his ten year career, highlighted by releases on Dear Deer and Steyoyoke. Now landing on Jelly For The Babies One Of A Kind, Ty Moy presents his 'Alchemist' EP. Known for his sonic versatility, Th Moy continues to build on that sentiment with this collection of music, touching on a variety of concepts beginning with the melodic minimalism of the title selection. A bed of warm, punchy beats lays the foundation for dulcet pianos to work some brooding magic. Finely tuned percussion and icy pads further the narrative quite tastefully before astral arps trail in and out of the framework. Quite contemporary and perfect for a headphone listening session. 'Boreal' follows a similar sonic ethos but with a bit more fullness and warmth overall. Beat layering gives the groove a nice shuffle while a plonky lead theme adds quirky flair to the narrative. These esoteric qualities segue perfectly into the deeper, despondent vibes of 'Falling Down'. Led by a female vocal, the feelings of despair are accentuated by muted piano stabs which may remind some of classic Radiohead material. Sections of arps offset waning musicality and breathy wails for a unique final act. The biggest dance floor track on the release would most certainly be 'Insolidus'. Sitting comfortably between progressive house and melodic techno, it's quite pacey at 123 BPM and although it's a bit more muscular than it's predecessors the esoteric theme of EP gets translated quite well through vocal choirs and astral aesthetics. Rounding out the release are the unique rhythmic qualities of 'Oceans'. The tempo appropriately shifts down and the offset time is always appreciated. It brings a much fresher sounding foundation for all the intricately placed sonics to work over. Detail is at a premium here and it's the subtle modular shifts in combination with a concise narrative that makes this such a satisfying closer. It caps off a unique and creative collection of music from Th Moy, perhaps the most accomplished work of his decade long career, and delivered in fine fashion by Jelly For The Babies' One Of A Kind imprint.
