Hailing from Mexico but now based in Chicago, Sergio Avila has been pushing his progressive sound with releases on Aletheia Recordings, Polyptych Limited and Soundteller, while earning the support of some of the genre's top tastemakers. Also an accomplished DJ, Sergio curates his 'Los Tecuanes' Radioshow while being a contributor to Chicago's burgeoned nightlife. Now continuing what has been a prolific 2021, Sergio debuts on Deepwibe Underground with 'Fullmoon'. The title track is first and shows Sergio's knack for crafting progressive minded grooves and sentimental melodies. A DJ friendly intro eventually gives way to a robust and well shaped groove, perfectly accented with driving percussion and wavy arps. Placid overlays and choir-like pads highlight an emotional break, eventually breaking off into a symphonic build and groovy drop. Meanwhile the companion piece 'Luna' follows with more of a nostalgic feel. A tighter groove anchors the journey, rolling forward with smooth rhythmic pulses as layers of percussion and icy pads add drive and atmosphere. Spacey arps then come in waves, marrying well with sweeping effects and clustered claps, before breaking off into an atmospheric rise into the main break. Continuing to add intrigue to the story, the centrepiece delights with striking electronics and a tense symphonic build, which eventually pulls back into an arp driven finale. In a year that has already seen Sergio release over ten new productions, his 'Full Moon' EP lands as his most memorable work to date and makes for a huge Deepwibe Underground debut. Don't miss it.
